Hawaii brought to your living room! We know that it has been a disappointing year since students were unable to travel to Hawaii to complete their exchange. Since they were not able to travel to Hawai'i, the University of Hawaii, Hilo has decided to bring Hawai'i to you. The National Student Exchange program and UH Hilo Center for Global Education and Exchange in partnership with the Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center is presenting a series of virtual presentations on Ha...waiian language, crafts, and history. Any interested students that are possibly thinking of coming to Hawaii for exchange are welcome to learn the basics about the native culture of the Hawaiian islands. The presentations, called "Virtual Mixed Plate" will be led by professors from the College of Hawaiian Language and local Hawaiian students. The presentations will include five different topics: Hawaiian language, Hawaiian history, lei making, hula dancing, and food. The first virtual presentation, which will focus on the Hawaiian language, will be available by Zoom on Wednesday, December 2 at 2:00 pm Hawaii time. You will learn basic pronunciation and words that are used frequently in Hawai'i -- including some that you might already be familiar with such as "aloha", "mahalo", and "ohana". The presentation will be recorded and be sent to all who register in case the time difference from your location makes it impossible to join live. If you are interested in learning more about Hawaiian culture, please complete this Google form to register for the first presentation: https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSchWi2Ba3RUpHtPc/viewform Those who complete the registration form will be provided the Zoom link and password prior to the event. There is no cost for this event. The remaining presentations will be offered during the spring semester in February, March, April, and May. Those dates will be announced later and you can register closer to those dates.
