This week, our Board of Education approved staff’s recommendation to implement the next phase of our reopening plan, with the expectation that our COVID-19 Safety Plan is approved and that our new Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with our bargaining units are completed. We encourage you to review the presentation from this Board meeting and have provided a brief overview of what this means for our District. Board Presentation: http://bit.ly/BoardPresentation0126 Elementary ...and Special Day Classes When Contra Costa County reaches case rates below 25 per 100,000 population for a minimum of five days in a row, SRVUSD will welcome back these groups, in a staggered model, over the course of seven days, for hybrid instruction: Preschool-5th grade students Preschool-adult transition Special Day classes, in their cohorts Families who wish to remain remote will continue to do so. See details in slides 5 and 6. Secondary Students (Grades 6-12) Since the California Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 Guidance does not allow secondary students to move to the hybrid model while in the Purple Tier, SRVUSD will provide specialized small groups after school, some cohorts during the school day, and learning pods during the school day for our secondary students. See details in slides 7-9. We have determined that there are questions that need further clarification, so we’ve opened a ThoughtExchange to give you a place to enter your thoughts about these questions, as well as rate 20-30 thoughts of others. Some questions we’ve received today include, How can we better understand the 25 cases/100,000 metric?, Why will reopening occur in a staggered format? and What is our plan for Fall 2021?. Link to the ThoughtExchange: https://my.thoughtexchange.com/197035552 We will use the results of the ThoughtExchange to develop a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) with answers to address these questions.

To Our San Ramon Valley School Community, As you know, your Board of Education made a difficult decision this week to delay the return to in-person instruction due to the surging COVID-19 cases and related concerns that we are hearing across our community. This was not an easy decision to make as we want our students back in class, learning and interacting with the teachers and staff whom they rely upon for instruction, mentoring and emotional support. While we feel this is t...he right step at this time, for the benefit of the whole community, please be assured that we understand there are many other challenges surrounding the pandemic besides the virus itself. We have heard loud and clear that we have students who are not thriving in a remote environment. We want to support these students. We have directed our Superintendent and District staff to build on existing programs and initiatives that are already offered in order to support the social emotional needs and academic challenges of all of our students. Dr. Malloy stated in our Board meeting, last Tuesday, that he and his staff will report on some additional opportunities for our families at our next meeting on January 12, 2021. We very much look forward to this update. Collectively, we are challenged by something that none of us has ever before faced, but we will do this together and with an unwavering commitment to our students. I want to express my appreciation for all the perspectives that have been shared with us. Thank you for your kind attention to this message. With warm regards for a healthy and peaceful holiday break, Susanna Wong Ordway SRVUSD Board President

Community Town Hall with Dr. Malloy | Wednesday, December 16th, 5 p.m. Last night, at the SRVUSD Board of Education meeting, the Board voted to approve the recommendation of staff to postpone the January 5, 2021 start of in-person instruction until Contra Costa County moves back into the red tier. Beginning on January 5, 2021, all SRVUSD students will remain remote (and follow the remote bell schedule), but will do so with their new class assignments, so that as soon as it is... safe to open to in-person instruction, we are prepared to make the change.
