A community garden serves the needs of the people, and right now our community needs us to speak out against injustice.
Hi gardeners! For those who haven't already done so, it's time to renew your garden bed dues - $120 for the year. You can drop your check off Sunday morning 10 to noon, or please contact Marty at the [email protected] to make arrangements to pay by check, made out to the Los Angeles Community Garden Council, with SSCG & your bed number on the memo line. Please pay your dues by 10/22, or let Marty know if you'r not planning on renewing by that time. Thank you!
Hi all Update: The compost bins sustained some damage but should be repaired next week. Plants in Bed 7 were knocked over but seem OK once they got upright. The door on the north side is not working. For now, please enter through the south door.
Hi all, a vehicle plowed through the wall of Joe’s Parking into the garden last night & damaged the compost bins & some plants in Bed 7. We’ll do a more complete damage assessment tonight.
Composting seems to have a magical effectplants thrive, producing an incredible harvest, making the soil and farmers very happy: "Composting calls, it speaks from the beyond, drawing in believers."
Check out Monifa Brown’s beautiful plan for one of our community beds!
Happy 4th, Everyone!!! Take a stroll by the garden on your way to see fireworks tonight!

Happy Easter! We’ve got a new hose hooked up. Please treasure it, & treat it kindly.
Greetings gardeners hope the beautiful Spring is treating you well. Our middle hose is broken & turned off. Please don’t use it or turn it on. We’ll replace it this weekend. Thank you!
What do folks think about growing one of these bad boys? We can in California! https://returntonow.net//blue-java-bananas-taste-just-li/
Hi gardeners! First off, this is not an April Fools joke! Did you know about the benefits of epsom salt and diluted hydrogen peroxide for your garden plants? Both are safe, cheap, beneficial for plant and tree health and best of all, approved for organic gardening! https://www.naturallivingideas.com/epsom-salt-for-garden-p/... https://www.naturallivingideas.com/?s=Hydrogen+peroxide+
Hey folks! Kudos to everyone contributing to our compost system, and super-kudos to those who also get that pitchfork out and turn the pile(very rewarding work!) We have noticed there are recurring little pieces of plastic (such as fruit stickers) that are getting brought along for the ride. When the compost pile cooks, those pieces of plastic are also cooking. Noooo bueno for an organic garden! Please all remember to check fruit for stickers, twist ties, and anything that ain’t OG. Happy gardening!
