It doesn’t have to be expensive to play new things with your child. Try using common household items already in your home. Using preowned items not only saves you a trip to the store, it promotes imagination and provides an opportunity to teach your child about common household items.

Do you find yourself saying listen carefully or pay attention frequently? Listening requires more than our ears! Using whole body listening, you can teach your child the importance of listening while eliminating distractions. Whole body listening also provides Caregivers with great verbal cues that can be used on areas that may need more attention or to compliment areas mastered. For example, a Caregiver can give a cue of our feet are quiet to gently remind our listener...s to stop tapping their feet just as they can say I like how your eyes are watching! to encourage the continuation of positive behaviors. As an additional bonus, its a great way to highlight and teach our little ones body parts! #speechtherapy #preschool #earlyintervention #Listening #wholebodylistening #communicate #ei #expressivelanguage #play #slp #therapy #learning #mom #dad #children #growing #bodyparts #apraxia #talk #specialeducation #specialneeds #delay #growth #parent #vocabulary #education #speechlanguagepahtology #speech #receptivelanguage #hearing

Animal sounds are the perfect building blocks in helping your child acquire bigger words. Most animal sounds are age-appropriate and are easier to say than the animals actual name. When your child is producing animal noises they are learning to put two sounds, a consonant and a vowel, together. If your child is using these sounds to identify the correct animals, they should be counted as words! #speechtherapy #speechtherapist #communication #education #childdevelopment #earlyintervention #preschool #learning #language #therapy #articulation #children #child #specialneeds #slp #teletherapy #mom #parenting #vocabulary #talk #speak #fun #play #animals #farm

Singing songs with your child is not only fun but it helps develop the basic fundamental skills of language. When singing we are learning different sounds, identifying word meanings, learning how to label, promoting eye contact, increasing turn taking skills, using gestures, increasing concentration and learning about our voices through vocal play. This song is called Down By The Bay. It is silly and has so much to talk about. Attached is a word list to help highlight key wor...ds that your child can generalize into their daily activities. Have fun! #speechtherapy #slp #musictherapy #speechpathology #speech #speechtherapist #preschool #earlyintervention #speechlanguagepathologist #speechdelay #music #therapy #language #education #teletherapy #specialneeds #speechpathologist #mom #parenting #communication #downsyndrome #specialeducation #speechandlanguage #learning #fun #apraxia #schoolslp #rehabilitation #children #pediatrics See more

Modeling is an excellent strategy to help turn your home into a language enriched environment. In order to model, say words and phrases that you would like your child to learn within their natural environment. There in no need to correct them or tell them what to do - just talk! You can model through Parallel-talk - Narrating what your child is doing, For example Youre pushing the car, push push, beep beep, go! Self-talk - Narrating what you are doing, For example I am ...washing my hands. Turn on the water. Put on soap. Rub rub rub wash, rinse. The soap is going down the drain. All done washing. Now I’m drying my hands Focused stimulation - Narrating specific vocabulary words multiple times within meaningful contexts. For example lets play blocks, red block up, blue up, green up, its getting high, up up up! whoa its big! That is up high! #expressivelanguage #receptivelanguage #speechtherapy #slp #autism #speechpathology #speech #speechtherapist #speechlanguagepathology #earlyintervention #speechlanguagepathologist #speechdelay #therapy #language #education #teletherapy #specialneeds #speechpathologist #speechtherapyideas #parenting #communication #specialeducation #speechandlanguage #asd #apraxia #schoolslp #rehabilitation #children #pediatrics #play

Did you know language can be divided into expressive and receptive language? Expressive language refers to an individuals ability to communicate themselves whether they are stating their wants, needs, thoughts or ideas. Receptive language is their ability to understand what is being said to them. Generally, when learning language, an individuals receptive language is higher than their expressive. #speechtherapy #slp #autism #speechpathology #speech #speechtherapist #speechlanguagepathology #earlyintervention #speechlanguagepathologist #speechdelay #adhd #speechies #slpsofinstagram #therapy #language #education #teletherapy #specialneeds #speechpathologist #parenting #communication #downsyndrome #specialeducation #speechandlanguage #apraxia #schoolslp #rehabilitation #children #pediatrics #play

We consider playing a child’s full-time job. Playing teaches children new words using topics they’re already interested in. By simply playing, a child is given the opportunity to learn speech and language skills that include: how to label objects, label verbs, build sentences, understand concepts, explore their environment, promote imagination, understand cause and effect, increase social skills, practice turn-taking, establish topic maintenance, and understand problem solv...ing. Most importantly playing strengthens interpersonal relationships. The list goes on. How fun!! #speechtherapy #slp #speechpathology #speech #speechtherapist #speechlanguagepathology #earlyintervention #speechlanguagepathologist #speechdelay #articulation #therapy #language #education #teletherapy #specialneeds #speechpathologist #speechtherapyideas #parenting #communication #downsyndrome #specialeducation #speechandlanguage #asd #apraxia #schoolslp #children #pediatrics #play #fun #backtoschool

Children generally learn to say specific consonants around age 3. By knowing which sounds are easiest for your child to say, you can help them communicate by giving them age appropriate words to use daily and within their natural environment. Children generally learn to say specific consonants around age 3. These sounds are easier to produce because they require less coordination of the lips and tongue. Knowing which sounds are easiest for a child to say gives parents a better understanding of which sounds are reasonable to expect. If your child is experiencing difficulty with these sounds by age 3, it is recommended you consult with a Speech-Language Pathologist. Source: Based on an average of studies by Wellman ...Et Al. In this video we are teaching the word "more" in order to give your child a general word to request their wants and needs. When teaching "more" we are giving our child the ability to generalize their desires for items within any environment. Children will learn that expressing themselves with one simple word will soothe their feelings of panic and frustration and instead will result in feelings of trust, dependency, and an overall need to connect with their communicative partner.
