The partnership between SpectorDance & Pacific Arts Complex (PAC) is an exciting way for both organizations to bring new opportunities to their students & families. SpectorDance instructors, Fran Spector Atkins & Amy Byington, will be teaching ballet for PAC's August dance camps at SpectorDance. PAC's week long intensives are designed for dancers to continue to grow a strong technical foundation & expand their knowl...edge of dance in a fun, safe, encouraging environment. Summer Program Highlight Floor Barre July 6 August 1 Monday & Saturdays 10:00 - 10:45... Floor Barre is a dance technique founded by Zena Rommett who helped many ballet, modern, jazz and musical theatre performers overcome injuries and develop and refine their technique. Rommett discovered that working with the legs in a parallel position was an effective way to train and correct a dancer's placement. Rommett conceived and developed her technique by bringing dancers away from a traditional ballet barre and onto the floor to do their dance training exercises. By taking the effort of standing out of the equation, Rommett's technique took the weight-bearing pressure off the ankles, knees, and hips. Rommett's application of ballet barre exercises performed using the floor as the source of support became known as the Floor Barre, the first approach of its kind. Floor Barre enables the practitioner to efficiently and effectively strengthen joints and muscles, correct alignment, release tension, and prevent and rehabilitate injuries. Rommett's technique facilitates the development of beautiful lines, smooth transition and fluidity of movement. The muscles become lengthened and strengthened, and energy is not dissipated but directed. Fran Spector Atkins taught for Zena Rommett from 1972 to 1977. Sign Up Today! Summer Program Highlight Choreography Workshop July 6 August 1 Monday & Wednesday 12:30 1:30... Dancers will explore the foundational tools of choreography. Using these tools, each dancer will have the opportunity to create daily studies. Each dancer will receive one additional hour each week in the studio to work for personal rehearsal (based on studio availability) This class will involve individual feedback and instruction. Participating dancers will have the opportunity to create a short piece for an informal in-studio or virtual showing of works created during the workshop. Dancers will need to bring a pen and notebook to classes. It is highly recommended to take the Intermediate/Advance Ballet class along with the Choreography Workshop. Congratulations to SpectorDance Dancer, Catherine Updyke-Brunet! Caty will be graduating from Salinas High School this week. She has been dancing at SpectorDance since 2011 and has been a SpectorDance Youth Company member from 2013 2020. Caty will be attending Hartnell College this fall with the intent of transferring to Fresno State University to study criminal justice with an emphasis in psychology and forensics.
