The first part of our strategy for keeping #PLAYSOUTHPARK lighter, quicker, and cheaper was to keep it in-house. Our Communications Director, Wallis, did most of the planning with Google and a box of colored pencils. Our Operations Supervisor, Tony, designed both mazes. Tony and Wallis did most of the painting, and other staff members helped between meetings and during quiet minutes. #southparkla

At the start of the pandemic our priorities shifted; in-person events and beautification projects were put on hold to focus on safely providing core services and encouraging COVID-safe practices among our stakeholders. Six months in, we were looking for a way to bring residents back out onto the sidewalks without creating unsafe crowds. In our next three posts we’ll share a behind-the-scenes peek at how we created eight #PLAYSOUTHPARK installations (for under $300!). Don’t forget we’re giving away gift cards to eight people who post photos with the activations between now and 10/14. Check out our #PLAYSOUTHPARK highlight for details on how to play!
