There are new work place blood exposure guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). It is no longer necessary to differentiate a "low risk" or "high risk" blood exposure. Now the CDC recommends a new three-drug combination of Truvada and raltegravir for post-exposure prophylaxis immediately despite the risk level. Evaluation and treatment is of utmost importance within the first few hours. After 72 hours, treatment and prevention options decrease dramatically. Time is of the essence.
