Footwork progressions for @vibevolleyballlab athlete of the month - Carly Wallace. Working on passing higher balls outside our bodies. First we warm up the legs with stock three step shuffles. Then we work the visual trigger of seeing the tennis ball and opening up the correct side. We start with footwork with a tennis ball to get used to lining our body up to the side. Then, we open the shoulders up by dropping the foot back. Finally, we add a shuffle step to the end of the move. Love working with this high level athlete. She gives me everything she has every time I see her.

I spend thousands of hours perfecting very specific skills of positional athletes. I find it SO gratifying to work many general skills to the same athlete. When I learned the game, we had to be proficient at every position. I believe this gave us a much deeper understanding to the intricacies of each position and created an understanding of the synergistic elements in relation to the big picture. #sbv #southbayvolleyball #vibevolleyballlab @vibevolleyballlab #volleyball #indoorvolleyball

Working with Jack Walker (University of Hawaii). On this day we focused on out of system setting from a block. Getting around this ball is difficult and requires: Locating and tracking the ball early. A very strong first step to the ball. Acceleration to where the ball is going to be.... Arriving early enough that allows the setter to turn to target and compose themselves to deliver a controlled trajectory/hittable ball. See more

KEEP EM MOVING! Part 2. All the stars aligned today @vibevolleyballlab. 3 trainers and 3 setters on the floor. Created this functional drill to work on rotational release positions 1 and 3. Some keys:... Release quickly Set your feet early. Square up to your passer in an athletic ready position. Hold your finish. Use your peripheral vision to set away from the middle blocker. #sbv #southbayvolleyball #setter #volleyball #coaching #vibevolleyballlab @stevenijams See more

Brought @wilson_buchanan6 into @vibevolleyballlab today for some footwork training. He recently made a big change to his footwork. Specifically his first step to the ball and also to setting his feet on arrival. Still has some refinement to do but there is major progress.
