Today is International Day of the girl. Man am I so proud of my girls. Everything I do especially as an entrepreneur is to inspire them. Someone once told me that we stand on the foundation of our ancestors, since then I have worked hard to get into postion to boost my girls on my own shoulders. I'm thankful for the journey, and everything that has made me into the fierce woman I am. And I'm certain that my Mom would be beeming if she could only see who I've become, and am be...coming. Often I have said I was made to be a girl mom. And now I can see how in this season of single motherhood, I actually have been given everything that I need to be there for these gorgeous girls of mine. Just over here letting the devil know... NOT TODAY. Not now, not EVER again... In this season when my God, my defender continues to expose the things done in the dark to the light, I choose to rest. He is moving me out of the wilderness into the promised land. Making my hands ready for the battle ahead to take hold of all of his promises. The reality that he has won the victory for me and all that I need to do is receive is changing the way that I see myself. ... My relationship with this beautiful God is filled with exchanges that transform me from the inside out. Beauty for ashes. Joy for mourning. Faith instead of Fear. Life for death.... Divorce is a death. This is something I remind myself of in this process as I feel the sting of the grief set in in unexpected moments. Grief is like that. One minute you're looking ahead rejoicing in the new that is being spoken over you and that you can almost touch.... and the next minute you're bawling your eyes out while listening to Dontchange by Musiq Soulchild; wailing at God asking him why you could've experience a love like that. Even in with the pain I feel his pre...sence and his assurance, his permission to be undone before him. He understands betrayal better than anyone. He knows what it is to long for a redemptive love better than anyone, he's the one who conceived the idea of redemption. Sometimes I shake my head while looking up at the sky and ask God to remove the parts of me that love so deeply because the pain is so unbearable. In these moments I picture him with loving eyes taking my frustrated and weary face in his hands, and just staring as I yell at him, my creator. His eyes filled with the deepest most sincere empathy and understanding. He isn't in a rush to have me overcome my grief, love is patient. He is growing this in me. More than I even realize. And love always hopes. He will never quench the wonder in my heart over how he designed me to be SUCH a lover. How he has preserved this even with all of the heartache is a miracle to me. He knows me. He knows what's ahead, and I see him leading me into promise. I see his care for my heart and for this I'm thankful. So today, I fell to the floor and cried more than I thought I could. And then I stood up again. Knowing that today marks another turn of the page, a closing of a chapter of my life where I was me. The Lover that he created me to be. I have no regrets in it all. I'm so glad I gave it all I could. God is still good, glorious and ever so beautiful to me. It's ok for me to feel all my feelings. God is not scared of any of them. And he's not going anywhere. Open hands I feel like motherhood is a journey of further trusting God with the moments that define your family's legacy. One of the best words of wisdom given to me as I was preparing to bring this one earthside was that being a Mother means constantly letting go.... Letting Go of control. ... Letting Go of expectations. Letting Go of your babies as they grow into their independence. My addition to this piece of wisdom is to have open hands.... To Let Go while holding onto promises and moments. And to have a hopefilled expectation of what is to come even when you can't see the outcome. She's not a toddler anymore.... This might be old information for some of you but for me... I feel like I woke up this morning and as she walked down the stairs it was evident that she is my big girl. So many mixed emotions with this. I feel so proud of her and so honored to be her mama. But I also mourn the loss of time and the many moments stolen from us over these last two years. She is continuously teaching me how to be a mom and for this I am ever thankful. ... **LONG POST** In my gut I knew there was so much going wrong, but I just kept putting my head down and holding tightly to the beauty that I could find or the love I could muster up. But here we are. This is my little family. Me & my girls. I'm a single Mom going through a not so easy divorce. Things are not the way they are supposed to be but I see light on the horizon even in this valley. ... I shared 11 years of life lived with my children's Father, but in that time the me I knew endured a slow death. Abuse will do that to you. And I experienced every kind imaginable. Still I held tightly to my optimism and well wishes of hope for change that would get me through. I thought if I could just call out the best surely it would make an impact. Time & time again it didn't. I struggled to find answers and turned inward questioning myself about my lack. What was I not doing right? I aligned myself with the lie that it was me and I took on more responsibilty. More of the covenant & vows we both were to share. Even still I was told this was not enough. There I was stuck in a cycle, so many so easily stay in for years. But I was slowly starting to wake up. The more I learned, the more I began to feel confidence in my own voice again. Today. August 26th. This day is a painful reminder of the beautiful wedding we had and how so many celebrated with us in hope that we were onto better. I know those who have been in it with us carry the heartache of the loss of that future too. I do not believe that God wanted me to stay in a marriage that continued to kill off all of the beauty that he designed me with. I do not believe he wanted me to have to ever prove my value or my worth to someone. He loves me and wants good healthy relationships for me as his daughter. He knows my heart and my deepest desires. Love is worth the wait. These two I've been editing away their EPIC wedding day remembering all the little details and the contagious GOOOOODDDNESSSS that came out of it. I loved how many of their family & friends spoke words of certainty into their stories as they continued to wait for each other. I love all the hidden treasures & signs God blessed them with to assure them that He was in all the details. The faith that these two have ... The struggle made them stronger seperately and prepared for each other. The waiting gave them the kind love for themselves that they knew they both needed. I told Eleanor that I knew I needed to photograph her wedding day because it would be SO healing for me in this season... little did I know that God would use their story to inspire MUCH JOY!! Crystal, You are a sister to me and a Tia to my girls. There are not many friends who will drop everything and drive 3.5 hours to just be with their friend because they know that she needs it even though she didn't ask. I'm not good at being needy and you know this about me. I'm strong, and so used to just getting through whatever is going on, solo. I've gotten better at asking for help in the ways I feel aren't too big of an ask. But your pursuing love has shown me over and... over again that it's not a bad thing to just want to be with others even when you feel like you don't have much to give because you're so depleted. You have encouraged me more than you know to continue to step out and be brave in the face of external adversities and also in the face of my own doubts and fears. I've been walking on clouds these past two weeks GUYS!!! So much JOY to be found in this season EVEN when it seems so uncertain. I hope you know today how loved you are. Just rocking my girl to sleep tonight singing old hymns. I felt this in my bones, I needed this reminder myself as I prayed for the atmosphere to shift in my family's life. If you forgot that He sees you maybe you need a reminder. His eye is on the sparrow, he provides for them. He sees you and your situation, he won't leave you to figure it out alone, He's already got the answer for you and He's already working all things for your good.

ALL BODIES ARE BEACH BODIES... This was the title of a close friends post as she posted a picture of her from our recent girls day over the weekend at Blacks Beach. We talked to each other about our body image woes and took pictures of each other in our two piece bikinis we chose to bravely dawn that day around our girls, feeling comfortable in our unique and beautiful skin. SO MUCH JOY encompassed the day as we celebrated together, beauty was RADIATING on the beach. I'm than...kful for her post, as it pushed me to share mine. At the gathering I spoke with another friend of mine who remarked about beaches in France. Where everyone embraces their unique builds and you can find many gorgeous humans of all shapes and sizes strutting the beach in their bikinis or speedos. There is no expectation of perfection, just the enjoyment of the atmosphere. The changes that have happened to my body during my motherhood journey have challenged me to see my beauty in a different way and to embrace and own my unique one of a kind body. When I see my imperfect belly, with stretch marks and loose skin I remember the story of my babies. And I see strength. My Aunt calls me an Amazon, and I proudly own that about my body. I am an Amazon, wonder woman is my ideam super hero. Beautiful, smart, brave and strong. I love that. This is my story and my season right now. This is the beautiful body I've been given and I'm honored to have it. Images are a way of storytelling, so that we can remember each season of life. I so often have clients who put off sessions because they aren't at their ideal weight. Irreplaceable friends are an essential....Am I right?!! These quarantine days have me so THANKFUL for the deep friendships that have carried me through the changing seasons of life. There are friendships formed in childhood that taught me the basics of quality friendship as we navigated trying to figure out who we were together. These were the days of imagination & discovery with hours of pretend, creativity, giggle and endless dreams. The testing friend...ships of adolescence that helped me narrow in what direction I wanted to set off on. These were the days of late night contemplation, loyalty, and finding out what we stood for and what we didn't. The surprise of friendships in early adulthood that caught me off guard with their depth and commitment. These were the days of study dates, missions trips, ministry and finding our unique gifts to give to the world. The beauty of friendships formed in maturing adulthood, where we have walked in each others stories, carried each others burdens, shared the kind of agape love that every heart longs for and had the kind of JOY that I'm sure delights the heavens. Through marriage, motherhood, career changes, small business endeavors, personal growth, death and heart wrenching uncertainty. Happy LOVE day from me and my Valentine's We spent the morning getting dressed up and walking over to @communalcoffee in North Park to enjoy some coffee and breakfast together. Valentine's day has special meaning to us. When Randy & I were in college we got together with all of our single friends and ate a meal at the Corvette diner. At that time Randy had my baby sister come along as his "valentine" just so he could buy us both flowers and pick me up to go on our "not-...date." together. The story goes a little deeper than what I can justifiably share on social media as we both have wounds from past Valentine's. All I can say is that rejection is one of those themes in our story that God is working out & healing as we walk together. We didn't spend last year together because of a devastating blow to our marriage. But because of a love that never fails and the grace of a God who is the WAYMAKER we get to celebrate together as a family & tonight as husband and wife. 10 years of Valentine's days spent with this man and I am proud to be his wife today. I am so proud of the beauty that is rising up out of the ashes and that I'm celebrating a redemptive love today that is bigger than any rejection I have ever faced.
