Last week, Instagram promised to crack down on influencers in the UK that do not clearly label their incentivised posts after a Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation. After more than 6 months, in-person jury trials have resumed at San Diego Superior Court this week. While this step back to normalcy addresses the backlog of pending trials that were put on hold due to the pandemic, low turn out indicates that jury selection and cases will take longer. Only 41 jurors out of the 800 who were summoned showed up on Tuesday while more than 300 postposed and hundreds more did not communicate with the court. Well, Prop 24 is funded by the same millionaire real estate developer Alastair Mactaggart who convinced California legislators to pass the original privacy bill. With the intention to add even more restrictions through this measure, a new law six months after the first one c...ould lead to confusion and increased compliance costs for businesses. Opponents of Prop 24 include the ACLU, which also argues that it's too soon to make changes to a law that's been in effect for a short amount of time. Thus, a vote against this current measure means businesses would continue to be required to follow the state's existing consumer data privacy laws and California consumers would continue to have existing data privacy rights. Just this week, California became the first state to adopt a diversity requirement for boards of directors of public companies. Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill 979 into law, which states that corporations with their principal executive offices in California must have at least one director from an underrepresented community on their board by the end of 2021. According to the law, a "director from an underrepresented community" is defined as an individual who self-identifi...es as Black, African-American, Hispanic, Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Native Hawaiian, or Alaska Native, or who self-identifies as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.
