TRIAL ORDERED IN OXNARD ARMED ROBBERIES CASE A Ventura County judge ruled Friday that there is sufficient evidence for an Oxnard man to stand trial for several ...armed robberies in that city. 27-year-old Douglas Lovings is accused of being armed with a gun during three robberies in Oxnard in 2014 and 2015. One was in June 2014 at a Home Depot, the second was in February of 2015 at a smoke shop in Oxnard, and the third was in March of 2015 at a shoe store. He is also facing other charges and several special allegations regarding prior convictions. In April of 2015 Oxnard police attempted to serve an arrest warrant for Lovings at his residence in the 400 block of N. G Street but he fled to the rear of the residence and refused to come out. That began a standoff that lasted two hours and involved the SWAT team. It ended with Lovings finally surrendering to SWAT team members without further incident. Lovings remains in jail with bail set at $500,000 and is due back in court on January 13th to have a trial date set. (Photo courtesy Oxnard PD)

OXNARD TEEN GETS PRISON FOR CRIME SPREE A judge Monday sentenced an Oxnard teen in connection with a crime spree in Oxnard during February of 2015. Prosecutors ...say that on February 11, 2015, Salvador Maldonado, who was 17 at the time, robbed two people at gunpoint. They say he took the keys to one victim's vehicle and drove it away. It was found abandoned three days later. Prosecutors say that on February 15, 2015, Maldonado brandished a shotgun at a 16-year-old male who was walking in Oxnard and robbed him of his cell phone, watch and cash. They say a half hour later, Maldonado carjacked two people at gunpoint and forced them to drive him to another location in Oxnard where he robbed them of cash and their cell phones and then stole their vehicle. The next day Maldonado was captured after a high speed pursuit in that stolen vehicle that ended when he crashed into a power pole. Even thought Maldonado was a juvenile at the time of his crimes, the DA prosecuted him as an adult. He ultimately pleaded guilty to several charges including several counts of carjacking and robbery with gang enhancements. Monday Maldonado, who prosecutors say is a member of the Colonia Chiques Gang, was sentenced to 24 years and four months in prison. His defense attorney says he'll be eligible for parole in 20 years.
