The San Mateo Police Officers' Association 11.12.2020

The San Mateo Police Officers’ Association (SMPOA) is proud to announce that we have officially endorsed candidate Neal Kaufman in the San Mateo Union High School District Board of Trustees race. We came to this conclusion based not only on Mr. Kaufman’s unquestionable qualifications but on the vision he has for the district’s future and the values he shares with our association. Mr. Kaufman expressed to us that his vision for this large and affluent high school district (...which is on track to spend $1 Billion over the next four years) is that every student would be empowered to achieve their individual goals based on their personal drive and aptitude. The district has the resources to help every student perform to the best of their ability to achieve those goals whether it be attending a top tier university, entering a trade or going into law enforcement, for example. Mr. Kaufman would steer those resources to ensure each student is given the tools and support they individually need to thrive. The SMPOA feels that Mr. Kaufman’s track record as a business and finance executive makes him uniquely qualified to bring the support, guidance and oversight to the SMUHSD budgeting and expenditure processes, ensuring that these programs are effectively implemented and administered, with significant public transparency. These are skills that the other candidates do not possess. Mr. Kaufman further demonstrated his dedication to the students of this district by raising $385 Million for SMUHSD as the Chairman of the Citizens Action Committee and continued to serve on multiple Citizen’s Oversight Committees, ensuring that money raised was efficiently spent. For voters who are looking for a school board candidate who represents values common to the Peninsula, is competent and capable of overseeing a huge organization tasked with ensuring our children are prepared for the future, look no further, Neal Kaufman is your guy.

The San Mateo Police Officers Association is proud to endorse the re-election of Councilmember Diane Papan. An effective public safety partner, Councilmember Papan has a long history of civic leadership and public service working to keep San Mateo a safe, healthy, and prepared community. Councilmember Papan provides San Mateo families with the experienced, effective leadership we rely on in extraordinarily challenging times. We are proud to support her reelection, said San... As Councilmember, Diane has promoted efforts to effectively respond to the health crisis locally, while continuing to address traffic reduction, affordable housing, and public safety. The San Mateo POA is pleased to announce that through our combined donation platforms (GoFundMe, PayPal, Venmo and The Police Credit Union) we have greatly exceeded our donation goal of $125,000 and managed to raise approximately $170,000 dollars. Every dollar will go to the victim of the heinous and brutal sexual assault that occurred in San Mateo on 08/05/20. The victim sustained serious injuries and has a long recovery ahead of her. The outpouring of generosity and compass...ion shown by not just our local community, but also from donors nationwide have been a strong source of comfort and reassurance to the victim and her family. No sentiments or any amount of money can fully restore what was taken from our victim, her family and our community on August 5th. However, the community response to this fundraising campaign, the resolve of the men and women of the San Mateo Police Department along with our allied agency partners to quickly identify and arrest the perpetrator helped restore a sense of security and peace to the streets of San Mateo. Although violent sexual assaults of this type (by a stranger in public) are rare, they do remind all of us that safety is never guaranteed. It is the hope of the SMPOA that our community continues to stand strong against sexual violence by reporting suspicious activity in a timely fashion, and watching out for each other. The men and women of the San Mateo POA wish to express our sincerest gratitude to all who have donated to this cause which deeply effected our members and community. We would also like to thank the media for bringing national and regional attention to this fundraising campaign while providing excellent reporting that aided in the capture of the suspect. See more

As many of you are aware, the San Mateo Police Department has been working on a violent sexual assault investigation that occurred on Wednesday, August 5th at 9th Ave and S El Camino Real involving a female victim in her 60s. The victim’s injuries were so bad that she’s currently at a local trauma center fighting for her life. Since the assault, the victim is unable to care for her two young children and her 90-year-old mother. Their rent is past due, more bills are coming i...n, and she still has mouths to feed. We’re asking for your help to support the victim and her family during their time of need. Whether it’s $1 or $10,000, we believe a collaborative approach to help this family will make the difference. We sincerely appreciate the outpouring of support from the San Mateo community and thank you for your donation. https://sanmateopoa.org/crime-survivor-fund

Greetings San Mateo! In the below link you will find the SMPOA's statement regarding us officially endorsing Councilwoman Amourence Lee for one of two San Mateo City Council seats that will be filled by the winners of the 2020 General Election. The attached document explains why the POA endorsed Councilwoman Lee, it highlights her platform and capability to lead San Mateo during uncertain and tense times. I also wrote about how Councilwoman Lee organized and led the process... which led to the creation of Black Lives Matter resolution (which was later unanimously adopted by the council). The process included myself as the POA President co-writing the resolution with respected leaders of San Mateo's Black community. I have also posted the press release to SMPOA's website: https://sanmateopoa.org/media-relations Regards, Rory McMilton President SMPOA
