What is a fuel EVAP test? The EVAP test is performed during a smog check that examines whether any gas fumes are leaking from a fuel evaporative system. Depending on state law, an EVAP test may be required with a traditional smog test.
Were you aware that many of the fluids used in automobiles are toxic to humans and animals? They can pollute the air when they're spilled and evaporate. They can also pollute the soil and groundwater. Some examples of toxic automobile fluids are hydraulic fluid, oil, gasoline, windshield-wiper fluid, antifreeze, and transmission fluid.
Did you know that regulations to curb air pollution were passed more than 700 years ago? One of the earliest of these regulations was passed in 1306, when King Edward I of England banned coal fires for a brief period in London to reduce extensive air pollution.
Filling your gas tank before your emissions test can help prevent problems with the test. If the gas level is too low, the fuel pump may be exposed, allowing vapors and contaminants to permeate the fuel line, leading to test failure.
While the word on the street may be that gas mileage and performance can be improved by removing certain smog control devices from your vehicle, the fact is that if anything is removed the test is failed at the first stage of testing the visual inspection.
It's easy to see that there are more cars on the road than there were a few decades ago. Because of preventive measures like smog testing, air quality is better today in many areas of the country than it was back in the 1970s when leaded gasoline was common.
If your vehicle fails the emissions test, the law requires that a certified and licensed smog technician perform all smog related repairs. Taking care of problems before the test is the best way to avoid this inconvenience.
Essentially, smog testing is beneficial both to the environment and to the car. Not only does regular testing help make sure that damage done to the air quality is minimal, but also checks if the car is in need of any type of repair.
When you've been avoiding smog testing because you're worried you'll fail, it's better to take your car in sooner than later. Cars with extremely high smog levels can receive the gross polluter vehicle designation.
Before you bring your car to our Smog Check center, make sure its Check Engine Light on the dashboard is not on. If your CEL or Malfunction Indicator Light is constantly on, it will result in an automatic inspection failure.
Our technicians can tell the difference between smoke caused by steam or a cold engine compared to smoke caused by a blown head gasket. However, smoke caused by a blown head gasket will affect a vehicle's ability to pass a smog test and should be addressed before the test.
Have you recently been notified that your car must go to a test only center for the next smog test? Don't panic. All this means is that your smog testing center is required to only test the smog levels, not offer diagnosis or repair of issues.
Have you ever wondered what actually causes the thick black smoke to come from your car's exhaust? Typically, this is due to a rich fuel mixture. This mixture can cause you to fail your smog check.
