What is a fuel EVAP test? The EVAP test is performed during a smog check that examines whether any gas fumes are leaking from a fuel evaporative system. Depending on state law, an EVAP test may be required with a traditional smog test.

Before you bring your car to our Smog Check center, make sure its Check Engine Light on the dashboard is not on. If your CEL or Malfunction Indicator Light is constantly on, it will result in an automatic inspection failure.

Our technicians can tell the difference between smoke caused by steam or a cold engine compared to smoke caused by a blown head gasket. However, smoke caused by a blown head gasket will affect a vehicle's ability to pass a smog test and should be addressed before the test.
