I spent 1,149 days in foster care and I was never adopted. I entered foster care at the age of 15. My biological parents had their rights terminat...ed my senior year of high school. The permanency plan the state created for me was for me to age out of the system and be thrusted into the real world at the age of 18. If we want to discuss adoption from foster care, we need to talk about the kids that weren’t adopted. * 5% of kids adopted from foster care are between the ages or 15-18 * 20% become homeless the day they age out of the system * 60%-90% of victims rescued from human trafficking spent time in foster care The reality is that 23,000 youth will age out of foster care this year alone. I know personally how hard it is to navigate life after foster care and I don’t want other youth to age out of care and have this be their reality. When considering adoption, please keep these youth in mind. This is one of the many reasons why we do what we do here at Together We Rise. If this story touched you, please consider joining us tomorrow on Giving Tuesday. #FosterCare #FosterLove #TogetherWeRise #ThisIsFosterCare

This year has brought things that none of us could have ever expected, and even those of us in the best circumstances have been impacted deeply. So imagine what it's like for our vulnerable foster youth, who are in far from ideal circumstances. During the pandemic our kids have experienced even more isolation than usual, had difficulties accessing education, and are struggling with a lot of mental health issues. We've had to adapt our roles as CASAs to accommodate quarantine ...guidelines, but one thing that hasn't changed is that our kids are still our first priority. Our CASA advocates are working every single day to help make sure our kids know they aren't alone and that any obstacles they are facing can be overcome. We encourage you to give what you can. Nonprofits are in a very precarious position this year, but the services we provide are more vital than ever. No donation is too big or too small, because Every Penny Matters when we all work together! Donate now or wait until #GivingTuesday December 1 and Facebook will match your donation.
