Just because the temperature has been cooler does not mean fire season is over. There has been no rain in our area and fuels are still very receptive to fire. Please be extra cautious for the remainder of the week. Remember all it takes is one spark to start a fire.

Last night Smartsville firefighters responded to two different vegetation fires. Both fires were located near the Goldfields. The first fire was kept under half an acre. Not long after being released from that incident we were dispatched to a second fire. That fire was kept to 55 acres with an aggressive attack from CALFire resources, Linda Fire, Marysville Fire, Penn Valley Fire, and Beale AFB. Also we have an engine that is helping support CALFire during this busy fire season by staffing CALFire stations. That engine has been out for about three weeks and is currently in Dobbins.

A majority of the fires burning in Northern California are from the last storm that came through. This is an excellent time to make sure you have an evacuation plan in place. You never know where the next fire will be.
