Today we’re sharing the words of our Order Selector, Chris Jackson. Black history month is important to me because it shows the accomplishments that African Americans have made not only in the past but in the present as well. As a father and a husband, I feel it’s extremely important that I establish this foundation in my household and that my children understand where they come from and that they take pride in their heritage. Black History is something that is often overlooked and/or not shared as frequently as we would like. We celebrate Black History Month to recognize the sacrifices, contributions, and achievements of African Americans to the United States and the world.

Today we’d like to share what our Inventory Control Clerk Christopher McCullom had to say about what Black History Month means to him. Black history month for me means both a lot and a little. It is a door to unexplored history and many accomplishments of African/Black Americans. For myself it was not widely c...elebrated in my home growing up being the child of a Belizean immigrant, the history was foreign to my mother. She grew up in Belize and did not emigrate until after the Civil rights movement. The importance of the month escaped me until high school and college. That was when I was truly able to understand the many hardships and sacrifices that African/Black Americans and the lack of knowledge I had from what I was learning throughout my life. Reflecting on the past gave me new perspective on how to go about changing the future for the better.
