We’re continuing to celebrate Black History Month here at Smart & Final and are proud to have the opportunity to share the words and insights of our associates. Darius Davis, our Operations Manager reflected on Black History Month and had this to say: I recognize Black History Month as a huge opportunity to learn and celebrate the various accomplishments and achievements of our culture. My wife and I try to establish a ‘seek to understand’ mentality for our son and we encour...age him to learn as much as possible about the history of the world. Black history acknowledgements have lacked in various educational circles and it is very important to seize the opportunity to learn and to further push that Black history is not only a month celebration, but a way of life. Black History Month is annual and is a critical element of the foundation that has shaped and molded our communities and the world at large. We celebrate with family gatherings, where we play games and have delicious food. We celebrate influential figures in our communities and culture. We have good conversations surrounding prominent leaders, occurrences past and present that have helped establish equality, sustain justice and ultimately made this world a better place to be. Establishing a strong foundation in education is key.
