ICYMI : Our Town Hall discussion continues this upcoming Wednesday at 7:00PM! We are continuing the discussions from last semester, and will provide updates on current work that has been done to address anti-racism and inequity within our committees (Recruitment & Entrance Auditions + Music History Committee). As well as leave space for our community to provide feedback, and engage in small group dialogues between both student and faculty. Links to RSVP in our bios and Facebook Event Page! IMPORTANT NOTE: To attend this event, you must RSVP through the intended form link (Found in the SMD E-mail Blast, IG Link, and FB Event Page).
Don’t miss this wonderful panel discussion! The Hear Me Panel Series comprises the many voices of our music community and plans to highlight the experiences of underrepresented communities in our field. The conversations will also touch base on how cultural events, social movements, and the historical context of music shapes performers and educators alike. The main goal of this session is to shed light on the manifestations and effects of sexism within the music world thro...ugh the stories of these female-identifying musicians, each of which has close connections to San Jose State. We apologize for the inconvenience and late notice, but our Hear Me Panel discussion on Women in Music (scheduled for today) has been postponed for the time being. Please continue to follow us for updates regarding the event. Those involved with the School of Music and our chapter, please be on the look out for updates via e-mails in the near future. We want to ensure the best possible experience for both our panelists and audience members alike for this series, and we thank you for your patience.
The pandemic has flipped the world of education upside down, presenting challenges for music programs all across the country. As advocates of quality music education, we believe that in times like these, we must be more supportive of our local communities and their music programs more than ever. In an effort to support our local community in East Side San Jose, we have partnered with Ken Nakamoto, music teacher at William C. Overfelt High School, to help raise funds for thei...r music program. These funds will help Overfelt students obtain much-needed resources that will help support their growth as musicians. So far we have reached about 25% of our $2k goal, so please donate and share today! gf.me/u/zf7yc6
