Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night. This is also a belated shout out to National Cat Day. There are NO references to cats in the Bible and we don't take them to church, but we still love our furry friends.

Please consider saying the following prayer each day to mark National Vocation Awareness Week, celebrated November 1-7, 2020: O God, Father of all Mercies, Provider of a bountiful Harvest,... send Your Graces upon those You have called to gather the fruits of Your labor; preserve and strengthen them in their lifelong service of you. Open the hearts of Your children that they may discern Your Holy Will; inspire in them a love and desire to surrender themselves to serving others in the name of Your son, Jesus Christ. Teach all Your faithful to follow their respective paths in life guided by Your Divine Word and Truth. Through the intercession of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, all the Angels, and Saints, humbly hear our prayers and grant Your Church’s needs, through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Today is the feast of St. Jude. He is so named by Luke and Acts. Matthew and Mark call him Thaddeus. He is not mentioned elsewhere in the Gospels, except of course where all the apostles are mentioned. Actually, Jude had the same name as Judas Iscariot. Evidently because of the disgrace of that name, it was shortened to Jude in English. Jude, like all the saints, is the saint of the impossible: Only God can create his divine life in human beings. Did you know we're anticipating about 100 or so kids at our first ever Halloween Spooktacular Drive-Thru this Saturday from 1pm-4pm? There are a couple things we could use your help with as parishioners to make the event a special experience for the kids: 1) We need about 7 more bags of the 100-150 piece mini, variety halloween candies (they are sometimes just listed as 5lbs rather than by pieces) 2) We need about 7 or so more folks willing to decorate their trunks or parkin...g space (families will be able to check out your decorations from their vehicles as they drive through; no candy will be passed out by individuals). Happy Feast of St. John Paul II! Of all the remarkable things he did in his life -- the opposition to Communism, the encyclicals, the pilgrimages -- for me the most powerful act was his forgiveness of his would-be assassin.
