Friday Spotlight on Curriculum! Our 7th graders studied the art and techniques of Angela Pan who is a marker artist. They also learned about light, color, and how the two are inseparably tied together. They learned how different light sources, the time of day, or the orientation of an object can affect how color is used and what colors should be chosen. Using alcohol markers, the 7th graders are creating postcards of their favorite places in her style. Our 8th graders studied the realistic art of Rosa Bonheur. They also built on their knowledge of value and how to showcase a wide range in their artwork. They are using different types of charcoal and drawing tools to create realistic drawings of ravens.

Nov 1 Joyful Solemnity of All Saints from St. John the Baptist Parish and School! The custom of keeping holy one day in the year as the festival of all God’s ...saints, whether commemorated in the Liturgy or not, dates back to at least the beginning of the Fifth Century. Although millions, or even billions, of people may already be saints, All Saints' Day observances tend to focus on known saints --that is those recognized in the canon of the saints by the Church. The children who attend St. John the Baptist Catholic School saints in the making happily anticipated this great feast by dressing up as their favorite saints on Friday, Oct 30! Early in the morning the boys and girls arrived in full regalia, but also ready to study! They went to their classes where they were visited by costume adjudicators (a team comprised of SJB Pastor Fr. Augustine, School Rector Fr. Damien, and School Principal Mrs. Paula Viles). Best saint in each classroom was a combination of best costume + knowledge about the saint being depicted. Following lunch we had the 2020 version of a long-standing SJB school tradition the awesome parade of the Saints, accompanied by, what else, When the Saints Go Marchin’ In! This year's parade took place on our field, with the children marching between rows of parked cars containing enthusiastic parents, grandparents, and family members. In ancient times this feast was usually called the Feast of All Holy Martyrs. The day of its celebration varied. Pope St. Boniface IV, when dedicating the Roman Pantheon as the Church of Our Blessed Lady and all Holy Martyrs, appointed November 1 for the chief annual festival in the sacred building. Gregory III built an oratory at St. Peter’s in honor of all the saints, confessors as well as martyrs, who had died in all parts of the world. Gregory IV chose November 1 as the Feast of All Saints. www.sjboc.org
