I thought you might enjoy a couple of pictures from the 16-1 mine from 1989. A good day on the 1500 level with Dan Black and John Wilcox. Paul Stober and me at our heading, the 1771.
A "few" miners have been here....
Banding in this vein was due to shearing. Photo taken by the USGS in the 16 to 1 mine in 1924.
Walter Iverson Smart, the man who incorporated the 16 to 1 mine, sitting here, probably enjoying what he is seeing with his loop, while sitting in front of the 16 to 1 mine. .
As the late rock and roll guitarist- Jim Morrison of the Doors - used to say... here are some weird scenes inside the Gold Mine. Just some more interesting photos we took while wandering around in the Sixteen to 1.

So, Mike Miller took some people to the Ballroom on one of his tours, and as usual he makes everyone turn off their lights and he lights a candle in the room to show how dark it must have been to be a miner working with a candle for light, underground. I suggested to him that he bring the candle closer to the wall, and it was like someone turned on a floodlight. The quartz is so pure white in the mine, the the candle against the vein literally lit up the WHOLE BALLROOM. In this image, his headlamp is off, and the light coming off the wall is only from one single candle(power). Sooooo... my guess working in the Sixteen by candlelight wasn't such a bad thing after all when you were on the vein....
I've got quite a few photos just taken by wandering around in the tunnels and taking shots that look interesting. I am not a "photographer" by any stretch of the imagination... but the interesting thing about taking photos underground is the interplay between the darkness and the light. I would think if some pro photographers took photos underground, the images could really be amazing. I am just a guy with a Iphone 11 camera.
