Production at the Louisville Juice and Water factory, located on the grounds of St Louis Senior High School, Kumasi, Ghana, has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pa...ndemic. The factory produces orange and sobolo juice, and water. Its main customers are the Louisville High School pupils, students, staff and other workers. At a recent meeting with the factory staff, the Sisters of St Louis examined the financial status of the business, and although sales have gone down drastically, the sisters have, thankfully, been able to keep its 12 employees at work. The AAVE Group in Goiânia, Brazil, co-founded in 1995 by Margaret Hosty SSL, works with people living with HIV/AIDS. Their mission is to restore the integrity o...f people living with HIV/AIDS by offering them acceptance, respect, orientation, hope and promote informational/preventive activities in the community. They conduct many training progammes for their clients in the centre, one of which includes literacy classes. It is so gratifying to see the happiness and independence of adolescents and adults who have learned to read and write. See more

LifeWay Network is one of only two organizations in the New York Metropolitan area providing safe housing for women survivors of human trafficking. Since 2012, ...they have provided a safe place to over 100 women from 34 countries. These houses provide homes where survivors live in community and are provided with the resources they need to rebuild their lives - from the help of social workers, to mental health counselling, to legal support, to connections with educational and job training opportunities. After they leave the safe house, they can transition into an independent living arrangement within the community. Michele Harnett SSL volunteers at the LifeWay Network. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic, the ability to volunteer in person has been severely curtailed. She has however, been working with a survivor of human trafficking by helping her improve her English conversational skills in weekly one-hour Zoom sessions. This is part of the program called Empowerment Square, which was founded by one of the women at LifeWay Network who spent a year in the safe house. She and a team of other young women, have created a very comprehensive program to empower the 25 women being mentored, and to give them the skills and confidence necessary to procure jobs and reach the goals they have set for themselves.
