I’m really worried and sad for our local restaurants, please order takeout, call them directly (not via Yelp) and try to do drive-up or walk-up if you can so that you save them the fees. We’ll help get them through this! Stay safe - this was in the the Health Dept update today: There are 1,401 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized and 26% of these people are in the ICU. Over the past 7 days, the number of hospitalized patients increased by nearly 35%.

Recap of a recent group call with the Dept. of Public Health for restaurants & chambers: -The overall trend for COVID cases is VERY concerning, the numbers are going up and we expect worse thanks to the holidays & the weather as people move indoors more. Positivity rates in LA County have gone from 3.6% in October to 5.9% in mid-November; health experts are extremely concerned about hospital beds being available for non-COVID and COVID patients. -Recommendations from the DPH... included: -Celebrate the holidays with your household only. -Quarantine for 2 weeks BEFORE you see friends or family members from other households if you want to do that. -Commit to wearing face coverings over your mouth AND nose -Stay at least 6’ away, more if people are talking loudly and even MORE if they are singing (we know what happens when the eggnog comes out!). -Wash your hands 10+ times a day. -Self-isolate x 14 days if you feel sick or have contact with anyone who is, even if it’s ‘just’ the flu. -Get your flu vaccine ASAP. -Avoid gatherings in confined spaces - indoors OR outdoors. -Remember that a negative COVID test only means that you weren’t positive at THAT moment - it doesn’t prevent anything. Good to know for restaurants wanting to avoid fines or other hazards: A tent is allowed to only have one wall at any time. Only electric heaters are rated for use under a tent, not propane. Check specs for electric heaters before plugging into extension cords; if allowed, heavy-duty cords may be needed. Avoid loud music or TV’s, people tend to raise their voices and yelling causes airborne viruses to spread more. Tables along a sidewalk must have EITHER 6’ to passersby OR a non-permeable, cleanable divider Take reservations to avoid lines; mark off 6’ spacing for people who are waiting. CA Senators are already on board, but if you are/know people in a red/purple state, PLEASE ask them to support this and sign the petition before the Senate leave...s for the rest of the month.
