It’s fall, ya’ll! That means it’s time for a quarterly home maintenance check. Trust meit’s so much more manageable to do these quick quarterly checks than to put home maintenance off and then get hit with costly repairs all at once. If you’re the Bob Villa type, you probably have your own list, but for the rest of us, here’s a jumpstart: Test smoke detectors & carbon monoxide alarms. Even if you think they still have life left in them, change the batteries.... Since your grilling-out days are coming to a close (bummer, I know), you’ll be cooking inside more. Go on and declutter, deep clean, and degrease the kitchenand don’t forget to vacuum behind the fridge. Your dryer vent is a real fire hazard. Use the wand attachment on your vacuum to get rid of excess lint. If you can’t get it yourself, call a professional. Check your downspouts after a hard rain to ensure water is flowing away from your house. If not, you may get standing water in your crawlspace. Winterize your mower and sprinkler system, and cover your patio furniture and grill. Check roof overhangs and repair holes or cracks where birds, rodents, squirrels, and bats may take refuge from the cold. Trim shrubs, bushes, and trees one last time before winter paying special attention to limbs growing too close to your house. Pull up your annuals (they’re gone for good) and mulch around your perennials (so they’ll make an appearance next spring). Have your HVAC serviced. You don’t want your system stalling out in the middle of winter (or worseduring the holidays). Evaluate your Halloween and holiday decor and put them somewhere for easy access so you’ll be ready when the mood hits to decorate. This is NOT an exhaustive list but WILL help you get started transitioning your home from summer to fall to winter. Got home maintenance question or need a handyman rec? Send me a DM! See more

Today’s the day! The day you finally set foot in the homes on your shortlist. No doubt you’re excited, but don’t just zip in and out! If you do, it’ll be a nightmare trying to keep it all straight later in the day. As you head out, take these tips with you so you can navigate your day like a home buying pro. Before any showings, read over your wants vs. needs list and revisit your budget.... Take videos and photos to jog your memory or to help process later with friends and family. You can’t change the lot or the location so make certain both work for you. You also don’t want to be the best home on the worst block or the priciest home in a neighborhood. Your agent can help assess whether or not that’s the case. While the home is important, so is the neighborhood. Who are the neighbors? should be another question on your mind. After all, good or bad neighbors can make or break a living situation. Take your time. If a home makes a good first impression, let your agent know you’d like to spend more time looking around. This is one of the largest purchases you’ll ever make so it’s worth it to learn as much as you can while you’re there. Ready to see some homes in our area? I would love to show them to you! DM me and let’s see if your next home is out there right now. #lyonrealestateauburn #newhouse #happyclients #lovemyjob #auburncarealtor #sacramentorealtor #placercounty #placercountyrealestate #rosevilleca #rocklinca #granitebayca #loomisca #lincolnca #penrynca #newcastleca #auburnca #visitcalifornia #northerncalifornia #norcal
