This past Saturday, I joined the the Bak Sing Lion Dancers & the Laurel District Association for our annual blessing of Laurel businesses. Every year my office... hosts our Local Heroes community celebration in District 4 where we honor our district 4 local heroes and celebrate Lunar New Year. However, due to the pandemic, we are not able to come together this year. We are hopeful to continue this tradition with you next year. See more

Laurel Lunar New Year Celebration Blessing Our Small Businesses

Today is the #DayofRemembrance, marking the 79th anniversary of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Executive Order 9066, which authorized the forced relocation of more than 110,000 people of Japanese ancestry to internment camps. The treatment of our Japanese residents leaves a dark mark in our nation's history, but also shows us how far we've come in addressing violence and oppression of the API community. We still have a lot of work to do, but I am optimistic we can achieve full equity for all people.

The Department of Violence Prevention is hosting three community town halls in the coming weeks. These will be important discussions on the current state of violence in our city and how we can work together to prevent it. Each town hall will target a specific area of Oakland - west, central east, deep east - to help focus the conversation to that area's unique concerns: West Oakland - Thurs, 2/25, 5-7 PM Central East Oakland - Thurs, 3/11, 5-7 PM... Deep East Oakland - Thurs, 3/18, 5-7 PM 2/3 These meetings will help inform the Department on how they strategize around violence prevention. California is the 5th largest economy in the world, yet millions go without healthcare. We must bring healthcare justice to CA, and it starts by asking Governor Newsom to apply for waivers to create a single payer system. Sign the petition today at petition.healthcare!

Thank you to every member of Congress who stood up for justice and voted to impeach our failed President. Democracy will live on in our nation and we have taken a strong stand against right wing conspiracies and white supremacy.

A HUGE thank you to the Oakland Fire Department for responding to two separate incidents in District 4. Our Fire Department does phenomenal work with limited resources and I can't thank them enough for their service.
