Glad to see the Pasadena Economic Development & Technologies Committee's positive comments on the contributions of home-sharing in Pasadena. Hope the tone continues forward when the issue is heard by the entire City Council soon. It's my hope that we find a way to find a happy medium that balances a homeowner's property rights with community preservation. To that end, I hope Council revisits the limitation of short term rentals for vacation homes and lifts the 90 day limit f...or unhosted stays. Most of the thresholds in the draft ordinance are arbitrary pie in the sky numbers. It's overly restrictive particularly when coupled with the 3 violations and your short term rental permit is revoked section of the ordinance. If homeowners are renting out their homes without incident or complaint, there is no reason for a cap. The 3 violation rule will weed out the problems well enough. I think it's also important to realize that the visitors to Pasadena come here for much different reasons than the short term renters in other neighboring and beach cities. We are over-regulating a problem that doesn't currently exist but that we **think** might possibly maybe become a problem at some time down the road...perhaps. City time and money from TOT tax collection can be better spent on things other than attempting to enforce this impossible to enforce ordinance. Minimize the red tape and make it easy to comply so that instead of wasting TOT dollars on enforcement, you can spend the additional tax revenue on something that serves a greater community benefit.

Looking forward to participating as a selection panelist for the City of Pasadena’s Rotating Public Art Exhibition Program. From the applications received by the Cultural Affairs Division, panelists will choose new artwork for the sites identified in their district. Phil Hosp for City Council. [***ORIGINAL CONTENT REDACTED AT THE REQUEST OF MARTIN TRUITT'S ATTORNEY 4/28/17***] Comments from original post included in comments below. [ADDED FOR CONTEXT GIVEN REDACTED CONTENT] In a post-election recap of his loss, Mr. Hosp has suggested via his Facebook page that residents in Pasadena who rent apartments or own condos are second class citizens. The argument presented by Mr. Hosp is that if you take out Precinct 121 which is made up of 72% ...renters and 18% condo owners, Mr. Wilson actually lost by 39 votes i.e. Mr. Wilson's entire victory margin comes from a precinct that's heavily renters. That's a pretty elitist approach to citizen involvement in our community. This continued post-election divisive rhetoric is proof that Pasadena elected the best person to represent ALL residents. Please message Mr. Hosp and remind him that the election is over and that there is no room in the Pasadena Way for fearmongering or isolating residents based on whether they "rent" or "own" or any other reason for that matter. Every vote counts regardless of one's financial means to rent or own property in the City of Pasadena. I was happy to support the winner of the D7 election and best remaining candidate Andy Wilson for Pasadena City Council along with fellow candidate Alejandro Menchaca for Pasadena City Council District 7. I do not believe that the residents in Pasadena who rent apartments or own condos are second class citizens as Phil Hosp for City Council suggested in this post-election recap of his loss. That's a pretty elitist approach to citizen involvement in our community. This continued post-election divisive rhetoric is proof that Pasadena elected the best person to represent ALL residents. I look forward to staying involved! And, maybe we can even get the street car for Bryan Witt!
