Happy October! Let's start this month with some motivation!
Hey everyone, 4th of July is around the corner! We would like to provide you with tips on how to stay healthy and still enjoy the holiday. Just following some of these healthy alternatives can go a long way in maintaining your overall health.... 1) Remember to stay hydrated! The recommended daily amount of water is 8 glasses of 8oz. Lemonade is a great way to way to stay refreshed. If you are planning to watch fireworks from the beach, make sure to pack extra water bottles. 2) Slather on that SPF! Always wear sunscreen when you are out and about in the sun. Sunscreen helps protect your skin from UV light and reduces oxidative stress on the body, hence, slowing early signs of aging. 3) If you are preparing meat, a healthier alternative to frying foods such as chicken and steak is grilling. Grilled meat spares your arteries from the saturated and trans fat that you would normally find in fried foods. In addition, olive oil and coconut oil are some of the healthier cooking oils as opposed to canola or vegetable oils which are highly processed. 4) When choosing meat for barbeques, it is best to stick with lean meat. Lean ground beef patties or lean turkey offer almost half the calories consumed from a typical full fat burger. 5) For refreshments, any fruit will make a healthy, refreshing snack. Watermelon and strawberries are in this season and are great way to keep cool in this heat. 6) Be mindful of alcoholic beverages and soda. Having a couple of drinks can easily bloat the waistline with unnecessary calories. If you’re jazzing up the day with mixed drinks, stick with low sugar drinks.
