**PSA for all people with small children who use Kirkland brand wipes or any wipe that contains this ingredient... Kirkland brand wipes contains a chemical call...ed Phenoxyethanol which if ingested can cause decreased central nervous system and nausea and vomiting. Now I hope no parent ever has to experience what we went through on Thursday night and I’m only telling this to prevent any one else from experiencing what we did. The kids were all playing in the room as Travis and I were just eating dinner. We decided to run to town to grab dessert but needed gas. At this time TJ had projectiled vomited all over the car seat, which he’s never done. We get him out to try and clean things up as he’s still puking at the gas station. We decide to head home to clean him up in the tub and I noticed he’s had massive diarrhea and as I put him in the tub he looks terrible, red around the eye and I can’t keep him awake. I think well maybe I put him in the car too soon after feeding him and he got car sick. I say maybe he ate something so Travis went and asked the girls if they had given him anything and they said he was given a baby wipe which he sucked on. Called poison control and they said wipes are safe and not toxic. But he keeps going limp on me so I call my dear nurse friend to triage him over the phone, she’s says call 911 and she’ll be over. Get on the phone with 911 and tell them what’s going on and he just keeps nodding off but dry heaving. I keep him awake until medics come and they take a look and they say he needs to go to the hospital. Now this is the scariest part that I hope I never as a mom ever have to experience, as we are driving he goes completely unresponsive to me keeping him awake. Sternal tub doesn’t work me calling his name, nothing. I’m trying to stay calm but I’m freaking out. And then the medic says we need to put in an IO which if you’ve never seen one placed it’s quite a shock! It looks like an ear piercing gun that they drill a needle into the leg to start fluids. I had a few choice words as to what was he doing to my baby but I knew it had to be done. And thankfully that made him cry and start to come back to me. When we get to the ER he’s more alert and responsive but still had no idea what had happened. We were released that night and he’s doing great, back to his normal self. But after all that we googled baby wipes and low and behold they can be toxic to babies. So long story short keep your wipes up and away from kids. But a huge thank you goes to Hillary Reynolds-Boyle and Justin who I am so thankful were around, you both did more than I can ever thank you for. TJ is so lucky to have you as his god parents!
