After decades of planning, and a recent bidding process, the city council tonight unanimously approved the awarding of a $61 million contract to SEMA Constructi...on to construct the long-anticipated bridges over the San Marcos Creek at Via Vera Cruz and Bent Ave. This valuable infrastructure project will begin in earnest in early 2020, and take approximately two years to complete. Discovery Street will be widened in the process, and many improvements will be made to the creek bed and surrounding area, including walking trails, bike lanes, a small park, and significant habitat preservation and restoration. For locals, this will mean no more road closures after rains. There will be significant community outreach as this project gets underway, and residents are encouraged to text SMCreek to 484848 for text updates.
