Our Great Plates meal program was just extended through February 6th! We wanted to acknowledge the great partnership between San Francisco Department of Emergency Management our DAS dept, Off the Grid & SF New Deal. We also wanted to commend DoorDash for helping to deliver thousands of meals over the holidays. #GreatPlates helps support older adults with delivered meals. This program simply would not have the same impact without the help of our community partners. www.sfhsa.org/greatplates #projectdash

We started vaccinating every resident at Laguna Honda Hospital who wants a vaccine yesterday. By tomorrow we'll be done. Over 1,000 staff have also received a v...accination. This has been the location that we feared was most vulnerable to a major outbreak. Today is a new day. In all the data and health metrics, it's easy to lose sight of the individuals who have been largely isolated in order to prevent an outbreak there. For people like Bernadette Yee and Jasper Harris, this is the beginning of the end of this pandemic after months of sacrifice. The federal government is distributing vaccines through established networks of states and healthcare providers. San Francisco is in charge of distributing the vaccine at City-run facilities. We'll continue to do everything to administer these vaccines as soon as they come in.

Meet Tony Lugo, our Workforce Development and CalWorks Services Division Director. To Tony, #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth is about commemorating the contributions and culture of the U.S. Latinx and Hispanic communities in America. As somebody who understands what it’s like to be a public assistance client, Tony values employees who represent the populations we serve so they can have a better understanding of our clients’ lived experience and needs. Keeping diversity in mind,... Tony has helped build one of the most diverse teams of professionals at HSA. Tony started as a client/ day laborer who would report to HSA looking for work. At 18, he was offered a job at the EDD office & then eventually worked his way up to Director. It has truly been a long road traveled and an inspirational journey for job seekers who turn to HSA for support. He acknowledges that his career success was a combination of luck and hard work that underlines the importance of mentor-ship and trying to help the next person meet their goals. As people of color, most of us suffer from trauma & inequity. It’s become easy for people to be mistrusting. Overcoming that trauma and being able to work well with others can be a challenge and will ultimately separate those from the others.

Today you get to meet one of the guys who has been creating all of this great video content for you! Meet Christian Claudio. Native Puerto Rican and JobsNOW! success story! Christian started his work at HSA under the JobsNOW! program working at the Workforce Development center helping fellow E/S/L clients at the front desk. Although he had tons of video and production experience back in Puerto Rico, parlaying that into a job in SF proved to be highly difficult. He’s now found a home with our Communications Department where he applies his expertise in graphic design and continually finds new ways for us to tell stories about our community impact through video. #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth

That role has taken on a new meaning while working for the City’s Central Command Center and trying to support the city’s displaced residents. Kira finds great pride in her work, and talks about how important it is to have staff that that can relate to the clients we serve. Although difficult, she is fueled by the kind words of the clients she helps support. #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth #EssentiallyYoursSF
