With persisting high housing costs and the increasing prevalence of single mothers under rent burden, economists have noted exacerbated economic disparities from the altering composition of the workforce and call the need for federal assistance.

Prop 13 was meant to protect homeowners, but has created a flawed taxation system in California. Use the interactive map to see these inequities in 12 California counties, and zoom in to see property taxes within neighborhoods.

Different projects to expand affordable housing in Bakersfield for seniors: "...the former Tropicana Motor Inn at 1622 Union Ave. and the Vagabond Inn at 1301 Chester Ave., both of which are undergoing rehabilitation and scheduled to reopen by January."

The last set of grants have been awarded to nine jurisdictions, including three Bay Area Counties, for 17 projects totaling 982 units:"nearly $130 million has been awarded to help house homeless in the Bay Area".

Plans to raze the auto shops at 565-585 Bryant Street, have been submitted to planning for review: "One plan calls for 190,000 square feet of office space over 10,000 square feet of retail and 44 parking spaces to be accessed by way of Welsh".

"A new proposal to move homeless people from the City of Oakland to the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton is drawing criticism from county leaders as well as Tri-Valley residents" (News Clip)

The city has dealt with a rise in homelessness, with a 42% increase over the last three years: "it’s very expensive to build housing here, typically an apartment building will require about $700,000 per investment per apartment just to get it constructed

Fare discounts expanded during recession: "...the Bay Area’s Metropolitan Transportation Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to use $5 million in federal coronavirus emergency funds to expand to up to 17 more agencies as soon as November."

Spearheaded by Eden Housing and KTGY Architecture + Planning, Corsair Flats is one of the two development projects to build affordable housing complexes in Alameda. It will provide 60 units for low-income seniors, allocating 28 for homeless veterans.
