Proud to have prevailed in our office's first California Supreme Court Petition! ROLLINS v. S.C. (PEOPLE) Case Number S263594 09/09/2020 ... The petition for review is granted. The matter is transferred to the Court of Appeal, First Appellate District, Division One, with directions to vacate its order denying the writ for habeas corpus, prohibition, or other appropriate relief and to issue an order directing the respondent superior court to show cause why the relief sought in the petition should not be granted. The temporary stay issued by this court on July 30, 2020, shall remain in place pending further order of the Court of Appeal. First ever video court hearing today (using Zoom). Case in Contra Costa County, involved urgent custody issues. Pros - I could see judge, opposing counsel and both parties clearly and easily. It was more private than open court. No one interrupted. No driving to court and waiting around. Cons - couldn’t easily talk with my client during proceedings. Overall I think it was good and hope the courts keep this as an option long term. - Michelene
