For the final week of the #WChallenge , we celebrate the 2010s by highlighting Tokata Iron Eyes. Tokata (Future) Iron Eyes is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and has been confronting injustice since the age of nine when she testified against a uranium mine in the sacred Black Hills. She was just 12 years old when she spoke in a video, calling for help in the Standing Rock Sioux Nation’s battle against the proposed route of the Dakota Access oil pipeline. As a yout...h leader in the climate movement, she continues to demonstrate her commitment to compelling the world to listen to Indigenous Nations from the NODAPL (No Dakota Access Pipeline) movement at Standing Rock to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women across the US. She says, I would consider myself a representative of indigenous youth. I feel like our perspective needs to be included in conversations. For a really long time, we didn’t have any say. "Despite being crucial for human health, nearly two-thirds of medically important antibiotics in the U.S. are sold for livestock use, mostly for cows and pigs. The beef and pork industries work hard to keep the details of this antibiotic use hidden." San Francisco’s second annual report on antibiotic use in food animals is out now.
