ob-kc.com: ~~~ Happy New Year. Sorry the cam has been down. I (Hugh the original owner and host of ob-kc) left San Francisco back in July and turned the cam ove...r to new occupants who agreed to continue to host and maintain it. However, they turned it off because it was slowing down their internet connection. Since this is a gigabit connection, the interference is likely the result of poor router configuration so this might be a quick fix. To get this back on line, we need a volunteer who can come in and troubleshoot the suck and configure the cam/router for optimal multi party use. Additionally, I need someone from the community to step up to manage and crowdfund for the cam. This can be a coalition, I don't care but to keep the cam going, someone responsible needs to take ownership. If the community wants to move it, that's fine too. Just work it out with the occupants. The community owns the cam, router and weather station as it was paid for through earlier crowdfunding. All the hardware including the router is in place, it literally just needs to be plugged back in. The cost to maintain the site and equipment are as follows: Angelcam hosting: $30/mo (There might be a better option.) obkc dot ddns dot net: free but needs to be manually renewed monthly Weather Link: free Domain host: I will continue to support Comcast: work this out with current occupants. If interference cannot be fixed through configuration, then another line will have to be installed at market rate cost. Cam needs at least 200 mbps UPLOAD and 5 mbps DOWNLOAD. Wind sensors: $100 annually as the salt air eats them up. So annual costs are roughly $500 using existing internet connection or up to $2,000 if a separate line is required. Interested volunteers familiar with security cam setup, please contact me. Interested community members interested in taking ownership, please contact me. I want to transfer all the credentials over to the new owner/manager. You can reach me at hb at rbk dot org.

Good afternoon, At 1430 local received a radio transmission over Channel 16 of a person stating "Coast Guard can you help me, I'm a surfer". We determined call came from within the Bay but unable to get position or general description. Hoping you could assist in tracking down potential surfers out there? Thank you. Please call the Coast guard 415-399-7300 if you have any information. Thank You.

Board sailing search and rescues, mostly kiteboarding a few windsurfing and several winging. SAR cases are tracked using a Fiscal Year vice Calendar Year cycle, i.e. October 1st - End of September) 2019 there was 66... 2020 there was 77 2021 there has been 5. We can do better with our judgment, talking to newbies and maintaining our gear better.

Taken from a windsurf forum FYI Berkeley Waterfront Planning Meeting There will be a Zoom meeting on Thursday, October 29th starting at 6:30 PM. It is being held as part of Berkeley's T-1 Bond Measure community planning process. It is organized by the Parks, Recreation, and Waterfront (PRW) Department, Scott Ferris, Director.... Although I'm uncertain as to the scope of the agenda, I understand that there will be discussion of the proposed replacement pier, with a ferry terminal addition. This topic should concern all those who regularly windsurf/kite/foil/sail/kayak/swim, currently launching from either the South Sailing Basin docks, the cove at His Lordships, Ashby Point, or from the Berkeley marina. Depending on ferry routing, a possible additional channel, and breakwater installations, our usual sailing/recreation area may be impacted. Fortunately, less than under the original WETA Ferry Terminal plan proposed back in 2009. One possible silver lining could be that launch access at His Lordships might be improved as an offset to what may be "lost". That would likely take some group involvement to ensure. I'd encourage paying close attention to this planning process. Much can go wrong without constant vigilance - in spite of best intentions. We have real-world examples of that dynamic at Pt. Isabel and Albany Beach. One approach for your involvement is to email Scott Ferris and ask to be put on the T-1 Meetings notification list: [email protected] Another is to attend the October 29th meeting from the comfort of your home. Here is the info & link for that Zoom meeting: 10-29-2020, 6:30 PM Waterfront / Aquatic Park / Bay Trail / Tom Bates Fields: https://zoom.us/j/97699637212 Phone: +16699006833,,97699637212# Notes for the first three T-1 "large area" meetings and all 24 focus groups are on the City website at: https://www.cityofberkeley.info/MeasureT1Events/ I plan to attend on October 29th and to post a summary of the meeting shortly thereafter. Cheers, David

Good Day SFBA! The American seagoing services used flags as a visual communications system, called flaghoist signaling, mostly as a means of communicating without compromising radio silence. The 2-flag signals were organized by general subject, starting with AA, AB, AC, ... AZ, BA, BB, BC, ... BZ, and so on. The B- signals were called "Administrative" signals, and dealt with miscellaneous matters of administration and housekeeping. The last signal on the "Administrative" p...age was BZ, standing for "well done." It was a rare occasion for a subordinate naval ship's Captain and Crew to receive such praise from a Battle Group Commander. Oftentimes a BZ during a patrol would put a Commanding Officer career on the fast-track. In the space of two days (24th & 25th of September 2020) the SFBA was instrumental to Coast Guard Sector San Francisco closing both cases and saving finite search and rescue resources. Most notable is SFBA earnest effort to build a culture among the boardsailing community that not only values the Coast Guard's role in their sport but exponentially increases the safety of boardsailing enthusiasts. All of us wearing the Coast Guard uniform, doing Search and Rescue for a living, are thankful when we can close a case instead of suspending our search. We would have been searching in the morning, at first light, if not for the SFBA's hard work and valued partnership with the Coast Guard. I prefaced this e-mail with the small history lesson because it is important to understand that a BZ, while informal, is a rare thing. On behalf of my co-workers in the Command Center, The aircrews in the Helicopter, and The Coxswain and crew of our small boats...A very well-earned BRAVO ZULU to the SFBA! CWO4 M. The Party is pretty much over for the year, the wind addiction is strong, time to focus on other pursuits. Many people swam in or were rescued yesterday at Crissy. No wind today and Monday. Posting this a week early than usual. https://www.sfba.org/winter-kiting.html
