Filter media is an important component of the BMP. It helps remove chemicals, hydrocarbons, and other pollutants as runoff flows into the filtration insert. Normally, the media is replaced once a year, ideally before the rainy season. When it is fully absorbed, the BMP is no longer functioning at full capacity, and the water is no longer being filtered before it enters our waterways. Our #stormwateraware beach cleanup on Saturday marked our sixth year of doing a community service event.
