Local Weather From Tony Cornett: Sunday Nov 8th 2020 Morning Weather update for Pine Flat and Hot Springs: Rain and mountain snow is expected across the entire region today and tonight with the first major storm system of the season impacting the area. At 3:30 a.m. I observed snow redeveloping over the Sierra's and will intensify as the days goes on. ... Moderate to possibly heavy snow is anticipated at times across the Sierra today and this evening with light rain in the valley. The unique thing with this storm is the trajectory. It is coming straight down the Sierra's from north to south. Snowfall amounts are expected to be up to 2 inches at pass level later today. Snow amounts are expected to be around a foot above 4000 feet across the Sierra today. We'll be right on the cusp for this. We normally get more than what's forecast as forecasters say the forecast models are almost always conservative on the predicted snow amounts. The heaviest snow is expected this morning into early afternoon. We could see 1 to 2 inches of snow per hour for several hours today as the cold core moves through. This could start out as cold rain and/or wintry mix, but have my doubts since we are already cold. Last I heard snow level could drop later today to 3000' or slightly below meaning Hot Springs will get a decent dose as well. We remain under a Winter Storm Warning thru tonight for heavy snow. As usual due to our aspect and location I imagine we'll see post frontal upslope snow showers as the Low moves out. We most always see this. Everyplace else I clears up, but us. So... we're gonna get our first good dose of winter. Batten down the hatches folks! Behind all this cold air will remain in place most the week with Freeze Warnings very possible for the valley. Possibly yet another system, but not quite as strong by next weekend. Below is a copy of this mornings forecast map.
