This year in Oct 2019, we are truly honored to host Mr. Bobby Scharton and his beautiful family. Bobby was selected by Vacations for Veterans to receive a week's stay at our family's home. Bobby was born and raised in Oceanside, CA (a local!) and graduated from El Camino High School in 1998. Two months after graduation he enlisted in the Army until retiring as a Sergeant Fist Class (Rank E7) in 2015. In his 17 years of service, Bobby served 4 deployments (3 in Iraq and 1 in ...Afghanistan) making him a 4 time combat veteran. His awards include 2 Bronze Stars, 1 Purple Heart, 1 Meritorious Service Medal, and 4 Army Commendation Medals. He is currently an active member with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA). He has been married to his devoted wife Kelli for almost 16 years and they have 4 children. We are absolutely humbled by his service and sacrifice to our great country! The Seaside Cottage Family is thrilled to announce that every year we will now be donating a week's vacation at our property to a Purple Heart Veteran through http://www.vacationsforveterans.org/. Since 2007, Vacations For Veterans has sent thousands of veterans and their families on free vacations. Vacations For Veterans seeks to provide a week of free lodgings to veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart Medal for action in any military campaign after 2001. We are honored to host our first family in Oct 2019!

One of the joys and most rewarding feelings of renting my grandmother's home is meeting and hosting families like this one. Meet the Canterbury kids! This family's vacation was not just an ordinary vacation, but their first vacation as a "forever" family. This is their first trip since the adoption was finalized. What lucky children to have gained such loving parents and siblings! We were so thrilled to host the Canterbury family and hope to host them again in the future!

One thing vacationers love about Seaside Cottage is the home has only been owned and occupied by one family. This photo of Sterling "Eddie" and Mid Edwards was taken in 1999 on the night of their 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Mid and Eddie were married for almost 58 years before Eddie passed in 2007. Their relationship has inspired many and set a true example of how marriage should be.

The people who vacation at Seaside Cottage never get a chance to see or meet the amazing Mid "Millie" Edwards. Mid purchased the home with her late husband Sterling "Eddie" Edwards when it was built in 1956. Since then our family has been the only family to ever own and occupy the home. It fills Mid's heart with joy when we read her the amazing reviews guests have left us after staying in her home. "It is refreshing, to know that other people feel so comfortable in my house" is what she told me when I asked her about how she felt after reading her our most recent 5 star review. I wanted our guests to see Mid as she is today, healthy and thriving at 93 years young! An amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. We you Millie!
