Sean's Fund 09.12.2020

Yesterday we went to Shriner's and met a cute little boy (not the one in this picture). He was lying down on a couch. clearly not feeling well. I asked him if he would like to learn to play chess. He brightened and tried to sit up. He proudly said that he knew how to play chess and that he wanted to play. Then he looked at his Mom with sad eyes. He said that he felt too sick to play chess right then. His Mom's shoulder's slumped and worry was increased on her face. S...o we went and got him a backpack and showed him the magnetic chess board. We told him he could contact us and we would come back and give him private chess lessons. His eyes sparkled. His Mom smiled hopefully. We are just doing something small but I still feel that it is something great. Maybe today you can look around and see if there is something small and something great you can do today to someone around you! Send a text- tell someone you love them! Hug your kids a little bit more! Call your Mom and Dad and say hello! Maybe forgive someone a little or a lot! Say thank you! Make a small and great difference TODAY! See more

Thank you to the Ahuja family for organizing and sponsoring this tournament to benefit Sean's Fund! We hope you can make it. Please send a note to Sarika (email on flyer) to register. There is no entry fee, but if you would like to make a donation (any size) to Sean's Fund, we would appreciate it!

Coach Jay has been teaching in the valley for 25 years and has spread his goodness to lots of us. If you would like to help us celebrate his time teaching others, write a quick message or leave a comment on what you love about coach Jay or what he has taught you. You can also email [email protected] if you want to keep it more private. We are giving him a gift of these comments Sunday September 15th at the Sean’s Fund Dinner. PS this is a secret. Don’t tell Coach Jay. We have blocked Coach Jay for a couple days from seeing this post. He has had about 40,000 students and we wanted to open this opportunity up to all those who would like to share. For more information on the dinner you can buy tickets to the dinner here: https://seansfund.cycl.org/the-dinner/

WAY back Wednesday! 1997 Sulphur Springs Chess Team. As I recall, they were State K-6 Under 700 Champs. I hope to see some of them next month at the Sean's Fund Dinner as I celebrate my 25th Year of Coaching Chess!

We lost Sean 13 years ago today (August 14th), but his legacy grows with every passing day. He gave us strength and inspiration. We miss you Sean.

We played chess with some Super Hero's at Shriners this week. Oh and Spiderman, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman were there too!

Our Coach Jay was spotlighted in the Signal! My favorite quotation from the article was this one in reference to Sean Reader, one of Coach Jay's students, It changes your perspective when someone you’re close to passes away, Stallings said. You stop thinking about how can you train grandmasters and instead look at how you can change these kids as a person. Now, I don’t look at games as if you won or you lost, but as ‘did you win or did you learn?’ This is why I want him to coach my kids! We had fun yesterday at Shriners with the cutest sweetest Kiddos, learning the beauty of chess and having a blast! I wish you all could see how miraculous the smiles erupt with this program!
