Closing out a great week of art with migrant children at the Convention Center! The girls made air clay bead bracelets, and collaborated on animal murals and strings of pom-poms. Happy our team of artists Katie Ruiz and Karla Sanchez were able to brighten their days and grateful to #MakeSpace4Art!

Challenged to create landscapes of memories by Space 4 Art’s team of artists, unaccompanied migrant children took creative approaches to craft beautiful images of faraway places, including the homes they left behind in a desperate bid for a better life with family here. Some of the girls gave artist Robertha Terrones a few images to take home. #MakeSpace4Art

After a battery of vaccinations, the girls arrived to start the art project tired and out of sorts. But as they worked on their self-portraits, they became energized and engrossed. With each stroke of a pencil, they came out of their shells. Line by line, their drawings took shape, with chalk pastels adding color. Felix Diaz, a resident artist at Space 4 Art, musician, educator, and creator and director of Drummers Without Borders, presents a series of programs on drumming and exploration with music, in Spanish and English. S4A TV Presents: The Inner World of Imagination Our artists Sean Francis Conway and May-Ling Martinez worked with groups of students from KC Rise, the after-school program at King Chavez Arts & Athletic Academy to create collaborative collage work addressing themes of identity and love. The students started with individual works on a single sheet of paper which were then merged with others’ works over the course of the program cycle. These resulted in collaborative collages m...ade into magazines, postcards, and other products.
