UCSD High School Internship Program - Student Applications Now Being Accepted The UCSD San Diego Supercomputer Center and the UCSD School of Medicine Health Sciences Division is once again offering the Mentor Assistance Program (MAP) for High School Students Fall 2020 - Spring 2021 ... Student Application Period: April 1- May 1, 2020 UC San Diego’s Mentor Assistance Program (MAP) is a campus-wide program that engages high school students through a mentoring relationship with an expert from a vast array of campus disciplines and departments. MAP’s mission is to provide a pathway for student researchers to gain access to UCSD faculty, postdoctoral fellows and staff mentors in their own area of interest to complete a research project. MAP is an opportunity for students to take the first step into a potential career path, allowing them to build an early foundation for success in their academic and research career. The program reaches out to all students and makes an effort to reach out to underserved students who are seeking mentors to guide them with their research and career interests. We strive to recruit mentors from across campus who work in fields as varied as aerospace engineering and archeology to medicine and cancer research. Students refer to the MAP website for mentor bios and research interests and through an online application process request to be paired with a mentor who best matches their research interest and career goals. By volunteering 2-4 hours per week during the school year, the program allows students to become familiar with a particular lab or work place from fall of this year through spring of next year. Such an experience is often very difficult for an underserved student to obtain and this program attempts to bridge that gap. For complete information about the MAP program and to access the online application, please visit http://education.sdsc.edu/studenttech/?page_id=2393. For questions, please contact Ange Mason of the San Diego Supercomputer Center ([email protected]).

UCSD MAP High School internship Program Application Process Postponed to April 1, 2020! (No Joke!) Application Period April 1, 2020 May 1, 2020 In light of recent school closures and the current upheaval of daily life, the online application process for UCSD’s MAP program has been postponed from March 18 to April 1, 2020.... A review of the County Office of Education’s school closure listing indicates that students will return to school throughout April. Although the return dates are not guaranteed, we are hopeful that students will easily be able to obtain recommendation letters. If this turns out to not be the case, the application requirements will be adjusted accordingly. For complete program information, please visit http://education.sdsc.edu/studenttech/?page_id=2393. For questions, please contact Ange Mason, SDSC Education Programs, at 858 534-5064 or [email protected].

ONE WEEK TO GO! Application Deadline for UC San Diego’s REHS Approaching Application Deadline March 15, 2020 The Research Experience for High School Students program, a part of the San Diego Supercomputer Center’s (SDSC) student outreach program, has been developed to help increase awareness of computational science and related fields of research to students in the San Diego region. Students gain exposure to career options, hands-on computational experience, work readines...s skills, and mentoring by computational research scientists. Through the eight-week volunteer program, students are involved with an established research project. Students learn how to formulate and test hypotheses, conduct computational experiments, and draw conclusions from those experiments. They also learn to take part in regular lab meetings and group discussions. At the end of the program, students will develop scientific posters, reflecting on their summer experience and highlighting their research and future career goals.
