Do you know Mike? If you work in trees in San Diego, you should! We are happy to have Mike Palat as our highlighted member for the month of January, 2021. ...Mike is one of 3 Regional Vice Presidents for West Coast Arborists overseeing field operations for the public agency tree care contracts in South Orange County, San Diego, Desert Cities and Arizona. This includes oversite on everything from field crew safety and performance to implementation of various project deliverables. Additionally, he helps lead a grants team that functions to help with a variety of grant-affiliated tasks like educational programs, public agency policy review and tree planting events. One of his personal goals have really been focused educating others. Serving on the PTCA seminar committee has been a wonderful outlet for this goal. This committed group of core members strives to put on the best educational programming in California. The effort and time involved has been very rewarding every year. When looking back at the annual reviews received, those comments mean a lot to both Mike and the team of committee members that help put the program together. There have been so many teachable moments throughout Mike’s career that it is hard to choose just one to highlight. One simple teachable moment that always stands out is when he has an opportunity to interact with a new WCA employee. Mike likes to take a moment to teach them about the tree that they are working on and explain how to identify it. His goal is to inspire curiosity not only with the species of tree but also the reason why we are performing this work. Understanding that this work is not a job but a very rewarding career that helps an individual take care of their family while also helping an entire city be healthy through the gifts of trees. That is his favorite teachable moment! To get the full story - download our newsletter online at: https://ptcaosd.wildapricot.org/news/10035321
