Golden Retriever had to wear a cone for 13 days, so his owner got crafty with them.

Congratulations to Officer Alexander Martens and K9 Grimm for receiving the Honorable Service Medal. On September 14, 2020 , an individual stole a firearm from... a car and started to run down Bridge Street. There were reports that the suspect was also firing the gun. Officer Martens was the first on the scene and quickly broadcast a description of the suspect. The suspect went into a dark wooded area and Ofc. Martens smartly held his position, waiting for back up. When it arrived, a search led by Ofc. Martens and his K9 Grimm began. The suspect was eventually spotted via drone. He was hiding in a backyard. Since it was feared that the suspect may still be armed and that he may also jump a nearby fence, Ofc. Martens wasted no time. He deployed K9 Grimm, who quickly apprehended the suspect, pulling him out into the open. The suspect was then placed into custody by the search team. This award is in recognition of Officer Martens' effort to place the safety of the citizens and his fellow officers above his own. Congratulations and great work!

OPERATION MERRY & BRIGHT | In an effort to spread some holiday cheer, members of our Community Response Unit teamed up and timed their patrol lights to the Tran...s-Siberian Orchestra song "A Mad Russian's Christmas." We hope this fun display of lights brings a smile to your face. *DISCLAIMER* The Lee County Sheriff’s Office does not own the rights to this music. Sometimes the right person arrives at the right time. It happened recently when a woman called Uber for a ride. As the driver headed to the destination, the wom...an had a medical emergency and became disoriented. The Uber driver called us for help. A sergeant from Southeastern arrived and realized the woman was deaf. Just her luck, the Sergeant knows sign language!! The woman was able to tell him where she lived and he got her home safely. You never know who is going to cross your path and help you get to where you need to go.

Remembering the four-legged heroes of 19 years ago, the Search and Rescue Dogs, the Crisis Response Dogs, the Therapy Dogs, and their handlers, of 9/11. Over... 300 teams responded to the disaster, but only 100 were prepared for the size of the massive job that awaited them at Ground Zero. Before the tragic events of 9/11, most people had not heard of Search and Rescue or Disaster Search Dogs. The horrific events of that day ushered in a new era for Therapy Dogs, Crisis Response Dogs, and Working Dogs as a whole. Their legacy lives on today in the work of their offspring, and the inspiration they gave to handlers today. May those who lost their lives that day, and in the days, months, and years after, always be remembered. May we never forget. Our thoughts are with you all today.
