This is a deep twist and the advanced variation should only be performed if you’re very comfortable and steady with the first step. It also challenges balance, body awareness and muscle integration of the lower and upper body. Instructions: 1. From a High Lunge position with right leg forward, exhale to bring the palms down and together at heart center.... 2. Inhale to lengthen the spine, and exhale to twist from the hips, taking the outer left arm to the outside of the right thigh. 3. Press the palms together to ensure the chest remains open, and draw the right shoulder back away from the ear to encourage more space into the chest. 4. If this is comfortable, drop the left palm to the floor outside the right foot to advance the pose, stacking the shoulders and reaching the right fingers towards the sky. Make sure to keep the back foot completely grounded. If taking the advanced variation, be sure to keep the chest open. With either variation, ideally, take the gaze to the top hand or over the top shoulder, but is this is too much for the neck then keep the gaze straight out ahead.
