In a letter to the Santa Clara community today, President Kevin O'Brien S.J. announced that, in light of the COVID-19 trajectory in the Bay Area and California ...and in an effort to keep the campus and local communities as safe as possible, all classes this fall quarter will be offered remotely, with very limited exceptions. Further, on-campus housing will be restricted, as it was in March, to only those with demonstrated, emergency need. Read Father O’Brien’s message: https://www.scu.edu/kob/updated-decisions-fall2020/

Peter Riehl ('03) interviewed SCU English professor and poet, Claudia Monpere McIsaac. They talk about the writer's life and literature that has inspired and moved them. They finish with a close reading and conversation about the genesis and mechanics of Claudia's beautiful story, "All Sweet Things Float," published in 2003 by The Prairie Schooner. https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-3zr7u-df5114

As teachers of English, we know the power of language to prompt social action and are committed to using that power and our own actions to pursue justice and redress systematic racism. We continue to grieve the violent losses of so many lives and believe #BlackLivesMatter. We join the voices of demonstrators and protesters that call for action against racial violence. #SCUEnglish #BroncosInSolidarity

Do you recognize our Dr. Edelstein as she grows up in these photos? As we start to share our advice and with our graduates, we want you all to remember how far you’ve come from your first days on this earth to even your first days at SCU! Graduation is a time of reflection and realizing how far you’ve come... with new friends, new knowledge, and a new place you’ve loved. Cheers! #scuenglish

The best part of any large celebration is the special surprise at the end. You may have thought we were finished sharing faculty photos yesterday but we like to keep a few surprises up our sleeves! Today’s special encores belong to Dr. Kirk Glaser and Dr. Theresa Conefrey! (Well, and Theresa’s twin sister!) Stay tuned for tomorrow’s reveal... #SCUEnglish
