Hi everyone! BLSA invites you all to our event; Accessing the Vote: Suppression and Barriers in 2020. The event will be held this Friday, September 25, from 5-6pm and will discuss the persistence of racial inequality and discrimination in voting and the extent to which racism informs voter suppression efforts. We will also be discussing voting in times of COVID and the ways to best ensure our vote counts. BLSA is co-sponsoring the International Law Students Association’s Mask Making Event this Sunday, September 20th at 3:00 pm PST. Let's come together and make as many masks as possible to distribute to the Bay Area’s most vulnerable communities. Materials will be distributed to those who are interested in participating so please sign up using the link in the email we sent if you need materials! Otherwise, you can source the materials at home. What you will need: cloth, ear straps, nose bridge, sewing thread, needle to sew. What Would Defund Look Like? is a Zoom Expert Panel Event in which panelists will discuss the different forms of what defunding the police could look like. Panelists will discuss their take on police reform in the wake of nationwide protests demanding an end to discriminatory policing practices resulting in the disproportionate killing of Black people, accountability for violent police officers, and the shifting of funding from law enforcement to social services.
