The County of Los Angeles announced today the availability of FREE, COVID-19 Home Test Kits. The kit is free between now and January 15, 2021 to older adults, people with disabilities and those who believe are COVID positive or exposed to COVID. Today, Oct. 11, would have marked the 5th Annual Disability Pride Parade & Festival here in Los Angeles. Every year, we celebrate community with over 2,500 attendees, vendors and artists / entertainers. This year, for everyone’s safety, we made the difficult decision to cancel our anticipated event. Though we can’t be together this year, we hope your energy and passion remain steadfast. We hope to reunite with many of you once it’s safe to do so. Lead on! A special weekend post wishing our Chief Executive Officer, Rudy, a very happy birthday! Rudy may be aging, but he’s certainly not slowing down. Rudy had many exciting plans lined up for 2020 prior to COVID, but they’re not lost, just on hold. Instead, like a true leader, Rudy adjusted with the quickness and immediately sought ways to help our staff, consumers and community through these challenging times. Without hesitation, he rolled up his sleeves and continues to do the necessary work to ensure our community once again perseveres and keeps pushing forward. Once more, to our United States Marines Veteran, Oohrah and Happy Birthday Rudy!

The City of Pico Rivera, contracted with Jensen Hughes Inc., is inviting Pico Rivera residents to their ADA transition plan public meeting this upcoming Wednesday, August 26th. There is an English session from 5pm - 6pm and a Spanish session from 6pm - 7pm. This public meeting will be held in a virtual setting with American Sign Language interpreters available. This office is equipped to provide all of our services from independent living services, employment assistance services and EDGE college services. We continue to help our community through these challenging times. Today, we gave over 200 backpacks full of school supplies to anyone who expressed a need for them. When these children return to school, they’ll have one less thing to worry about.

Happy Birthday to all of our staff celebrating in August, including our Human Resources commander, Mr. Robert Perez. Robert, a Combat Veteran Army Sergeant, is a dedicated team member who strives to keep staff morale at its peak. Happy Birthday again, and as always, thank you for your service; Hooah!
