This year, it's safest to stay home and celebrate the holidays with the people who live with you. But if you are going to gather or travel, assume everyone in your gathering has been exposed to COVID-19 and take every precaution. Keep it small, and don’t eat or drink. The fewer people, the better. Eating and drinking is when masks start to come off and that’s a cause of many COVID outbreaks. Wear masks everyone, always. Make sure everyone stays at least six feet ...away from others the entire time. Visiting outdoors is best. Sanitize your surfaces, doorknobs, bathrooms, countertops, etc. And make hand sanitizer easily available to all. Travel is not recommended at all. But driving is considered safer than flying, especially when airports are full. If you fly, deck yourself out in a holiday mask and keep it on the entire time, and stay as far away from others as possible. If you do travel, please remember to self-quarantine for 10-14 days afterward. Work from home if you can. Testing before and after gatherings or travel can give you a false sense of security. COVID testing is dependent on when you were exposed and the level of virus currently in your system, so a single negative test does not mean you don’t have COVID-19. Testing is also very limited right now due to the surge, so not worth a test if you don’t have COVID symptoms. Learn more: www.scripps.org/covid19f
