Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office requested K9 Odin’s help to track a fleeing suspect. Odin’s nose successfully led Officers to where the suspect was hiding in the bed of a truck. The suspect was detained and Odin got a few extra scratches. We are always happy to help out our neighboring agencies when needed.

Yesterday Captain John Wilson worked his final shift at the Scotts Valley Police Department after a twenty-eight-year career with our agency. Captain Wilson was actually scheduled to retire in June, but agreed to stay an extra six months to help us out with the multitude of issues this year has brought our city. Thank you for your service to our local community and we wish you well in a much-deserved retirement.

On this thanksgiving day we are thankful there were no serious injuries when the intoxicated driver of this vehicle crashed through the fence on Hwy 17. sheering off a light pole and finally coming to rest against a tree on Meadow Way. The driver will get some time to count their blessings in a holding cell.

Today we want to give a special shout out to one of SVPD's first Police Volunteers, Gay Pollock, who turned 90 today. Gay volunteered many hours to our agency for fifteen years (1988 - 2003) before deciding to "retire" from law enforcement. Everyone who worked at SVPD at that time appreciated her service to our agency. Happy Birthday Gay! We are glad to hear you are still going strong.

During the early morning of 11/18, there were several attempted burglaries and vehicle thefts in the northern portion of our City. Officers responded to a report of a carjacking where the suspect ultimately abandoned the vehicle close by to the original scene. A short while later, an alert citizen reported a suspicious person loitering near his vehicle that he had left running to warm up for his commute. Officers responded and located the subject in the area who also matched ...the description of the suspect from the carjacking. The suspicious person was identified as the carjacking suspect and arrested. Once arrested, the suspect was found to be in possession of over two pounds of marijuana and 55 grams of methamphetamine. Officers were able to later obtain video surveillance from several houses, which confirmed one of the suspects from the attempted burglaries was the subject we arrested. This is another example of alert citizens working together with SVPD to help protect our City. See more

Officers were dispatched to a report of a shoplift from CVS. Officers spoke with the employee who provided a description of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle as well as an itemized list of merchandise stolen. Based off of the description, our alert Officers were able to locate a possible suspect. Officers contacted the person who admitted to taking the items without paying. The suspect was arrested for shoplifting and over $675 worth of merchandise was returned to CVS. Although Odin wasn’t an integral part of this investigation, he still wanted to be in the photo!
