We wish you a safe and joyful independence day!
A huge thank you to Dominique Masequesmay and The WAY Up group for providing personalized graduation gifts to some of our high schoolers heading off to college. The baskets included In N Out Gift Cards (of course), stuffed animals, Haribo, make-up, coffee, and stationery, to name just a few! We love being able to make our kids smile and especially when it's their hard work and effort, not to mention resilience, that got them through school - Class of 2021
The American Dream is rooted in the U.S. Declaration of Independence. That document, created by America’s founding fathers, says two key things that are largely responsible for shaping what the classic American Dream is. The declaration says that all men are created equal and that each man/woman has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. - #WednesdaywisdomonaThursday!

There are 160,000 students in Southern California who, like Nicholas, do not have a place to call home. Students and families are navigating one of the most challenging school years of their lives. Imagine the additional stress and trauma of being without a home too. School on Wheels provides free online tutoring, school supplies, and technology support for students living in shelters, motels, group homes, vehicles, and the streets of Southern California. Join us to help these students overcome the many obstacles they are facing. By becoming a donor and supporting a student in this critical time, you can be part of the solution. https://schoolonwheels.org/gottheirbacks
Adrianne has a kind, loving, and empathetic heart and wants to become a veterinarian to help animals. Through my tutor sessions with Adrianne, I have learned a greater depth of the power of commitment and to be consistent. Adrianne's hard work has shown great improvement. -Volunteer Tutor Pamela
We teach our students about grit and resilience as part of our social and emotional learning curriculum. It is just as important for grown-ups. #wisdomwednesday

"Adversity fuels my activism. I’m out every single day organizing for a brighter day because I know and understand the beauty, resistance, and persistence that ...is South Central LA. South Central LA, which continues to be underinvested and low income. I walk through poverty-stricken streets, I witness children get harassed by police. I encounter drug dealers and sex workers all while walking to get something to eat. I struggle with food and housing insecurity every day. Our livelihood is at stake!! Use your innate strength to guide you in this fight. This November is important and our schools and communities are at risk. I’m going out to vote because I’m directly impacted by injustice. I'm voting because I’m a first-gen college graduate and a community organizer. I’m voting because the state has a responsibility to allocate funds to the communities with the highest needs. I’m voting for my family who has been impacted by the criminal injustice system. I’m voting to deter police terrorism. I’m voting because I am committed to my community.
