A happy customer for this 1965 000-28S: "Hi Eric, Man, you were right on with this guitar! It is one fine sounding box! And like none I have played before; you nailed it in your last description. I love it and will definitely keep it. It suits my style perfectlyl"

A much younger me with a Soloist I owned back when our guitars were assembled at Martin. It had a custom ordered 1 7/8" neck with an absolutely perfect shape. I loved it when it first arrived from the Martin factory, but had to send it out to the customer who ordered it. A year later, he asked us to narrow the neck so I offered him a new guitar and played this one for several years.
I love this Josh White depression era song.
Vintage Case Candy, these came with a '40s Martin. The metal thumbpick actually works. The capo, which was very popular, was the cause to so many chewed up necks - the cork would fall out and people would keep using it for years.
Hitler had this guy killed, and you can understand. He was an outspoken Lutheran...BTW, this guy is and always will be one of my heroes.
The newest Schoenberg, a 000C Standard, build by Bruce Sexauer. Maple is a new favorite.
Made by Wayne as payment for a stash of incredible Brazilian rosewood, using an outstanding straight-grain quartersawn set for this one. Top is Adirondack, of a quality rarely seen - extremely tight grain and beautiful color. Wayne used the smallest herringbone purfling on the top, which adds a subtle, classy look. The string spacing is 1 " x 2 ", as in the earliest Dreadnaughts, with perfectly scalloped braces and the smallest bridge plate. All together, the result is one of the best new Dreadnaughts I've ever played.
On the bench...Santos Hernandez from 1936. Hernández was a disciple of Manuel Ramírez (see last post) and built the 1912 Ramírez that Andrea Segovia made famous.
On the bench! Manuel Ramirez Spanish guitar. Ramirez was the most important luthier of the early turn of the century. This guitar is light and delicate but in g...reat condition well over a 100 years later. My duties were to repair a split which was like gluing two pieces of notebook paper together on edge. The French polish touch up was a delight to work with and fortifies my appreciation for this type of finish. See more
I’m working alone in my shop these days making conversation with old guitars. If this guitar could actually speak, I imagine it would remind me of what the stat...e of the world was like on it’s birthday. By doing this, it might assist in helping gain perspective and hope in such a chaotic time. In the single year this 1933’ CF Martin Orchestra model was constructed, there was uncertainty and chaos.. Worst year of the Great Depression , Hitler became Chancellor of Germany, 1 in 4 people were out of work, there was the dust bowl, and the hourly wage was 35 cents/hr. It’s hard to imagine making it through just one of these things in the first year of life. Now, with a little love and care, this little guitar will continue to be a tool for happiness and inspiration for generations to come. Kinda adds perspective and hope for me. The Golden Gate Bridge started construction in 33’ and like this guitar, remains a symbol of perseverance and stability. @ M. Walker Guitars See more
We are closed for the foreseeable future - chased out by that mean old virus. Hopefully they'll let us back in in the not-to-distant future. In the meantime, send us email: eric at om28 dot com. We'd love to hear from you!
Michael is a maker of fabulous guitars, and our newest repairman. Here we are discussing a major restoration of a customer's '39 D-45.
A new arrival: Lloyd Loar F-5, signed June 18, 1923, in superb original condition with its original hard shell case. Non Virzi, there's wear on the tailpiece cover, otherwise it's mint.
This 1934 Jumbo came into our shop a couple of weeks ago, much to my surprise and pleasure. As you can see, it is in wonderful condition. It's super rare, from the first year of Gibson's jumbo models. It's all original, plays great. It might just be the best one.
Joscho Stephan, Richard Smith and Rory Hoffman at Schoenberg Guitars, Tiburon, CA, playing Django's Swing 42. Joscho on the '28 L-5, Richard on the Larson 593 and Rory on the '28 F-5.
My friend Eric Schoenberg @ericschoenberg graciously sharing his infinite wealth of knowledge of an old Martin. Schoenberg has one of the worlds greatest collec...tions of vintage guitars for sale and there is no one in the business more open and willing to spend time with guitar lovers. A true national treasure... See more
